Lockheed jet was considered too expensive, by the Grand Coalition member SPD, according to rumors. France also feared that a a large F35 purchase, by Germany would hinder the European FCAS program that recently was !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . France is unpleased with Belgium picking the F35, saying that the Belgians !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

The Germans now have to choose between !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or replace the whole 75 Panavia Tornados with Eurofighter Typhoons. Buying F18s would still leave 30 old Tornados, the German air force would still have around. They can either try to squeeze every drop of life of those Tornados, until 2040, when the FCAS is projected to enter service.

Or order a whole bunch of new Typhoons(more than 5 0 to replace both the remaining Tornados and the older, Tranche 1 Typhoons.

Ah the Tornado, the coolest plane that time forgot. Ok maybe not forgot but I forget about it frequently. Has there ever been a swing wing plane that wasn’t built without considerable controversy? M aybe the Mig- 23?

Was the F-14 controversial? I don’t imagine there was much controversy around any of the Soviet designs, as that would require more freedom than was available in the USSR (MiG-23, MiG-27, Su-17, Su- 20, Su- 22, Su-24, Tu-22M, Tu-160).

I used to love seeing the Tornados flying over the house or looking down on them doing the Mach Loop.

The R.A.F. are getting rid of more Tornados, the latest being from R.A.F. Akrotiri in Cyprus.

Well, I mean that’s controversy over the F-111, not over the F-14. The F-14 was built after it was clear the F-111 wasn’t going to do it for the Navy.

Belgium should just be split between France and the Netherlands. And then Germany should take over the Netherlands and Luxembourg, putting an end to those irritating little countries.
