After the untimely demise of the altima rental car, I was out 500$ for the deductible on its accident (I’m somewhere in that shot above, the lady who hit me is in the ditch). So no biggie, I just took the cash out of “fun money” and called it good...Until Progressive called me yesterday and said the police report was not fully read by their adjuster who says it clearly stated I was not at fault so I get my 500$ deductible back.

So.....yay! I guess my hunt for a 1000$ project/fun car is back on! I’m still looking awfully hard at an old Fiero in my area. Will update Oppo if/when it happens.

SC 3800 swapped Fiero would be better..

Or SBC swapped....

Nah, it’s keeping the iron puke. But I would definitely swap in the circle-track built one that makes like 270hp.

I’m not basic enough to swap in a 3800 or SBC...I’d have to keep it weird.

Rotary engined fiero? Porsche engined fiero? 2JZ fiero? Hayabusa fiero? These would be on the table. But nothing simple or already done to death.

Fine, BBC Fiero.

Or maybe Boosted Chrysler 3.0 Fiero!

Easy now, there were enough fire risks with the fiero when it’s stock. Let’s not make that worse with a chrysler engine.

.....Except for the viper V10.

Holy fuck, Viper V10 Fiero.

I love it.

Seems like this is one of the rare Altima accidents that was actually unavoidable.

Most Altima drivers around here just SEND IT without much regard for the consequences .

Yes/no.

I will not put in A 1.0 ecoboost. I will put in TWO  1.0 ecoboosts. One in front, one in back. Then I have a 2.0, AWD, 6 cylinder fiero.

That amazes me since the rental altima had a traction control system that wouldn’t allow me to even attempt to spin the tires up to dig out. It even stalled on me “For my safety”. But anyways, it’s gone from my life now and it didn’t cost me a penny to rent or get smashed by a buick. Sort of a win-win really.

Does an SBC even fit there? I mean, sure, someone’s probably done it, but how much would you need to modify the chassis?

You’re looking for “Super Duty 4" or SD4 motors if you want your own. They were used in the ARCA series for a while as well as some other racing series. The indy pace car  (real one, not the replica series) had a 230ish horsepower version. Buy the right parts and you can build one over 300hp with off the shelf GM racing parts. I’d like a nice streetable 200-250 for mine, please.

Now you’re talking.

I just keep thinking how much I want to drop a 1.0 ecoboost into a Metropolitan. I’m just able to realize it’s beyond my budget/ability.

Interesting. I live in California, so I don’t spend much time driving in snow. But, on dry pavement, I routinely see Altimas whose drivers are looking at their smartphones while weaving through traffic and jamming their car into impossibly small gaps between other cars. (This is different from most of the other bad drivers around here , who look at their smartphones while rolling forward slowly on the highway until they crash into the stopped car in front of them.)

Perhaps I started noticing it more after I read the final paragraph of article by Jack Baruth:

I know a 455 “fits”, not sure how much “modification” needed to be done to make it work, but I know you didn’t have to worry about heat.....

Hey Chrysler engines don’t light on fire, they just mark their spots.

Besides, a boosted 3.0 would make more power/torque than a Viper V10 in a far smaller package.
