Registering the TourX on Friday. I’m thinking about getting a non-standard plate.
Should I get:
1. Iraq War Veteran
2. Afghanistan War Veteran
3. Standard plate
4. Honorably discharged Veteran
5. US Army
6. Something else from the links below.

The point of all this is to take a chance on getting out of a future ticket.

NOT AARP

I'd go with Army. Keep it non-specific in the hopes that the cop would ask more and you two would start talking.

Get the one that gives you the most discounts, if there’s any such thing based on your license plate.
Or, if you’re native you could get something that showcase your smug superiority and piss off all the damn transplants ;)

I got the Visit Your State Parks one, then visited a state park, forgot to pay the entrance fee, and got a ticket.

One of the first two to identify as combat vet. I imagine quite a few cops would be the same as well.

Well, a quick google search backs up the suspicion that double digit percentages of police officers are former military. Then too, even more officers are likely to be sympathetic, based on assumed stereotypes about cops. So, you probably have a good chance for return on investment.
The trick is which branch do you want on your plate? If Navy or Army, you might not want a former Marine to stop you. And if Air Force, well not sure what consideration you’ll get from any of the other services that think they actually fought for a living. Trouble is, I couldn’t find any break down on the service profile of officers there.
Your best is to pull the generic sympathy card and see if you can get a Purple Heart plate.

He needs Colorado plates, so he’ll have to get one of these:

Unless you’re looking for a talking point in case you get pulled over, I personally like the look of the regular plate versus the military plates . I think the Rocky Mountain Park plate looks nice, too.

Do you have to prove any of those? I’m genuinely asking.

Yes, you do. All of them as far as I know. I listed the ones I know I qualify for. The broader list on the website is a crap shoot.

Are you Army retired?

Don’t qualify for that one, thankfully.

My suggestions:
1. Girl Scouts Plate with “POLANSKI”
2. Italian American Heritage plate with “CAPONE”
3. Columbine or Fallen Heros plate with “DARWIN”
4. Kids First with “EAT THE”, “KILL THE”, “COOK THE”, “BEAT THE” (you get the idea).
5. Wildlife Sporting with “GUN CTRL”
6. Firefighter plate with “ARSONIST”
7. Donate Life/Donate your organs plate with “SQUID”
8. Boy Scouts plate with “J SAVILE”
Am I doing this right?

Get one that says “ IH8COPS” and they’ll leave you alone because they won’t want to bother you.

I mean for police pandering, presumably you want this one:
Who Qualifies:
A person authorized by Colorado Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors Foundation Inc. will be issued a pay pal receipt valid for one set of plates.
Requirements:
Qualifying person must donate $50.00 to the Colorado Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors Foundation Inc. for each authorizing pay pal receipt. Contact the Colorado Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors Foundation Inc. at
www.coloradocops.org
That might be a bit too obvious though, so the Army or Afghanistan ones might be better.

If you wanted to lean hard into the vet angle you can get a veteran identifier on your license/ID as long as you have your DD214 when you get it renewed.
