Spent a couple minutes at the marina doing some snow driving practice and getting a feel for things; I wasn’t inclined to stay for long, given that I was already down to half a tank of gas.

I’ve always found chasing things to be great practice haha. The birds were right there to target. I do this at open skates for hockey

Nice! That lot looks perfect. Color me jealous.
What did you figure out? What are you hoping to improve in the future?

Gotta be way gentler on the throttle when the car is already loose in the back, and with the Blizzaks, the fronts pretty much do a decent job of staying planted. So overcorrection is an easy thing to do if you’re overgassing it.
That said, when I was pulling onto one of the six-lane roads near my place, I almost completely spun out because I’d mistakenly given it more gas than it should have gotten during the turn. So I have a pretty decent idea of how to do big drifting snownuts; just don’t feel inclined to
try
it yet.
Maybe next year when we get fresh powder and not the slurry we’ve been getting this weekend.
Also, traction is trash when you’re driving on slurry/slush/compact snow as a mixture; you’re far more liable to lose control than if you were on the packed snow that we got last Monday. THAT was perfect control.

For sure slush is way more slippery than cold, packed snow when you’re running snow tires. The slush fills up the tread and makes any tire spin or slide pretty easily.
I can’t believe how gigantic of a space that is to play in, and yet how many tracks there are! Must have been a lot of people with the same thought as you - you can see a few in the video anyway.
Have fun! I get to do this often around here and it still never gets old.
