It’s that time of the year to update and close my balance and budget books. Let’s see how my money pits have done this year...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

...looks like my Sol has bottomed out, only lost $50 this year.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

...whereas my 3er still has a long way to go, lost a whopping $3675, compared to $1850 last year. That’s a lot of Oppo-certified scrap project cars. Good thing that steering repair was covered, otherwise $8k was definitely enough to total the car.

vmrcanada.com

Generally their numbers are on the lower side I find, but it’s a good enough estimate for books.

Oof, apparently I’ve eaten $3k or $5k (I have no idea how to read it) on depreciation in a year and a half on the Fiesta.

Here’s a dee preesh update for you: the $800 worth of Tesla stock I bought the week they went public is today worth a little over $10,000 . I just sold $2,000 of it to buy a Crown Vic P71 to use as a donor car to swap -engine this 1988 Ford Ranger:

Well you have to check it year to year, wholesale to wholesale or retail to retail. I use the wholesale one.

This is what mine looks like over the years since I started tracking.

Solstice:

F30 :

Number seems accurate, considering the big drop when the F30 was 5-years old in 2017 . She’s going to be 9-years old very soon which is usually the other big turning point. Whereas Sol was past that a long time ago.

Looks like you got the first rule of business sorted out: buy low, sell high.

I. Love. Early Rangers.

A 1987 is the very reason I love cars to this day.

I mean, the Ranger is a robust and highly dependable vehicle. The later ones, though, drive like crap. My wife had a series of Ranger work trucks, the first three generations. The Gen I was by far the nicest to drive.

This one of mine was given to me by a friend, so the price is right. And with a 2010 P71 drive line, it ought to move out smartly. I am hoping to drift it a bit. I’ve been wanting to do some drifting for years, and at 55, I’ve decided that the time has come.
