Kona N? The KonaN? Awesome .

It’s really a bummer they won’t give us the i30N or do a full N version of the Elantra GT , it’d make an awfully compelling  alternative to the GTI.

Where is this from?

They’ve already said it won’t be AWD sadly... If it were AWD I would be all over that... I mean just today I drove in weather that while doable with good snow tires, plenty of care, and FWD, was made into an entertaining opportunity to go drifting thanks to AWD.

Well great, 2020 is already ruined for me.

True that. The V eloster N is a good time, but the i30N is a far more appealing package, and could really make the GTI squirm in the US market...

That’s sad (possible) news about the Skyactiv -X...

That’s surprising, given most crossovers sold are AWD and most dealers only order the AWD versions. And it would be easier to put the power down rather than slide

I’m curious if they’ll give Kia a performance arm, an uprated Stinger could be amazing.

Iknowright? It seems they don’t have a power-transfer unit that will handle the power, and maybe not a rear differential assembly (that can handle the power) that will fit either :/

I lean toward “Why do an N-version of your small crossover if you can’t make AWD work?” But I have a feeling that from a marketing standpoint it would probably work... I mean the Kona is basically just a tall , slightly updated ., i30.

Yep, especially when one needs the space and doors for dadlife, the Veloster is a nonstarter. I’ve been a VW nerd my entire life, and GTIs are really fun, but I’ve seen too many stupid things break on the VAG 2.0T’s in the shop to want one in my life.

You mean Mazda declining to do a Speed 3 for the past two generations  would eventually come back to bite them in the ass? shockedpikachu.jpg

Seems like. My wife wants a mazda3 anyways though so this is still good for me, now I can get a new car first, get that paid off and by then these will be out and she can get the turbo.

It is, but I still call this a win, wife has been wanting a mazda3 for years anyways, so this just makes it a little sweeter for me.

S ure is interesting that Hyundai is making  more compelling sporty vehicles than “Zoom, Zoom, Driving Matters” Mazda.  Disappointing.

The possibi lity of a full-fat Sonata N makes me wonder if Kia will get a sportier 300-ish horsepower Optima to slot above the GT. As much as I like the new Sonata, the Optima is way better looking in my opinion.

Kia is sorta kinda doing that with their GT and GT-Line badges , although it’s not exactly equivalent to the Hyundai N and N-Line badges.

There were some articles about Kona N test mule sightings back in October.

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/hot-hyundai-kona-n-seen-testing-n%C3%BCrburgring

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1116762_2022-hyundai-kona-n-spy-shots

https://www.carscoops.com/2019/10/2020-hyundai-kona-n-with-246hp-turbo-spotted-for-the-first-time/

I’m not sure what MT is talking about with the power being dialed back to 255 hp to preserve the e LSD. I f the e LSD works in the i30 N and Veloster N that make 275 hp, presumably it’d also work in the Kona N if it made the same power.

CX-30 turbo might be a compelling wife-mobile for me.
