!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , my Twingo failed inspection due to rust in the floors. I managed to find a guy who made a quick fix (just some fiberglass and bitumen coating, as some of you suggested) - because the cost of actual repairs is way over the worth of the car, and I have no time, money, tools and place to fix it myself.

But basically things are looking positive, the car is hard to the touch on the bottom (lol), which will hopefully be enough for inspection. I think my appointment is on monday, wish me luck.

Did he clean up the rust (though not repair it) and hit the rust that was there with some rust converter so it would at least help the rust that was there from spreading...?

Yes, I believe so. He removed the worst (crumbling parts) and added what I think is rust converter or some sort of rust-stopping chemical. He added a few small metal plates here and there, then filled in hard to reach places with foam, then sealed a lot of the affected parts with fiberglass and finally sprayed the whole thing with black tar - bitumen sort of thing.

Later today or tomorrow morning I will jack up the car and see what’s been done myself, I haven’t had the chance yet, I just crawled under for a peak.

This was all done for a fantastic price of 250 kuna (around 40 euros - but keep in mind that 40 euros in central europe is not the same thing as 40 euros in Croatia).

For the inspection I will also clean the car thoroughly for a good impression, fill up the tires, fluids, clean up all the leaking oil if I find any, and get a good run on the highway prior to the inspection, to help with emissions testing.

Godspeed! Didn’t another Oppo with a Twingo fail inspection a while back?

Also, do consider that some rust is actually significantly structural. Hard to say without pictures, but if it’s made its way into the door sills, you won’t be as safe in a crash as if they were “properly” repaired. That said, I also drive rusty crapcans, so I get it.

Since I have the space in my backyard for it, I might just fix it in the coming months myself, take my time. But this all depends on the costs of a new registration and so on, I still have to ask around.
