Well, a pair of things, really. Mrs. BaconSandwich mentioned a while back that she wanted a set of curtain hold-
backs (things for holding the curtains back from the window, to allow more light in)
. So for Christmas, I made her some. It’s been a while since I have busted out the carving chisels, and I’m not terribly good at it, but it was still a decent experience.
T
he carved bits are made of basswood - not exactly the strongest wood. Because of that I made them a bit thicker. I was also worried about the kids bonking their heads on some of the sharp points, but we’ve mounted them fairly high up the wall, and the kids don’t generally play in the corners next to the living room windows, which is where they are now installed.
Now that these are done, I’m itching to get out to the garage and do something again. Maybe I’ll make another dining room chair next.

That’s pretty impressive. If my better half were to ask that of me...

Thats some pretty wood work mate
Anyhoo don't worry about the kids breaking their little heads.... I broke mine a thousand times and I'm still perfectly functional

The diabeetus was supposed to be a chocolate mint chip cake, except I forgot the chocolate chips until after I’d already dumped it into the pan. Still turned out okay. Probably the first time I’ve tried decorating a cake. It was a bit frustrating, but people seemed pleased with the results (the cake, not my frustration).

Our 3 year old is the... adventurous one. We’re not looking forward to the inevitable trip to the hospital for her first broken bone. It’s only a matter of time with her, though.

May it be a long time mate

Well, so far the worst we’ve had was taking the 5 year old (then 3.5 year old) to the hospital for stitches. We were camping, had juts gotten to the camp site and had the tent set up, and she tripped while carrying a flashlight. Rim of the flashlight hit her in the eyebrow, and she needed 4-5 stitches. There’s been a few other trips to the emergency room (cut/squished finger that was bleeding pretty good, another kid threw a rock at the 3 year old’s foot and she lost her big toenail), but so far no broken bones.
It took me until I was 13 or so before I got my first broken bone. (Also hopefully my last broken bone. I’m getting too old for serious injuries like that).

Awe, thanks!
It sounds insane, but my dream is to build my own vehicle. Maybe not quite the same form of art, but an artform nonetheless!

You are welcome! Carving is a skill that I do not possess. That’s some real artistry right there.
