Snowflakes don’t survive long at Yale.

There’s a huge cultural difference between legit learning institutions and degree mills, and more importantly a huge difference between people who go to college with a goal to learn vs going to college because it’s what they’re “ supposed to do.”

I just read an article earlier today about how record numbers of sen iors are going back to college either to finish degrees or just take classes for the enjoyment of it. Th ey touched on the physical changes to the campuses being made to accomodate this, but I was a bit bummed they didn’t even start to approach this topic of the 18-22 crowd intermingling on the same campus with seniors (or at least, mature adults) and the class environments that will happen because of it.

Th is article seems like a good preview of what’s to come.

“ One young woman volunteered to help me by proof-reading my “prose” and, for the record, I believe she will be the President some day.”

God help us, another Yale grad as President.

I’m glad I went to a school where co-op employment was mandatory. Th at became the “weed out” to get the people who weren’t serious about college out of the classrooms. Co llege is not for everyone nor is it the one and only way. Th e sooner that stupid idea dies, the better we all are for it. Also, same with forcing kids to make that decision before they’re even 18 in some cases. If you decide college is right for you when  you’re in your 30s or 40s, it shouldn’t be the cultural norm that you’re “too late”. Hell, that crowd probably has some of the best students right there.

So much this. I have quite a few friends in the trades who make good money and are far better off than many of those people who went to college because that’s what you were supposed to do.

College isn’t for everyone and can’t be for everyone. This society doesn’t function if everyone had a degree and worked in a field within that degree.

Even then people need to still be able to stop and realize it. It’s the reason you get comments like, “you’re a good one, not like those others”. Reality didn’t confirm their preconceptions, but people still find a way to rationalize them.
