Both houses of the American Congress have agreed (an achievement in and of itself) that Turkey’s 1915 genocide o f its Armenian population was a genocide.
Not their president though. Oh no. His best buddy, that nice Mr Erdogan, didn’t like that. He threatened to close the American military bases in Turkey or else. That nice Mr Trump then decided to bend over for Mr Erdogan and delete the hated G word. So that’s ok then.
Mind you his predecessor was just the same.

This is typical of the yankees. They didn’t apologize for locking Japanese-Americans in camps until over 40 years later .

the Japanese have yet to really acknowledge their behavior leading up to (and including) WWII. To this day China and Korea dislike them rather much.
at least when I was in school we were told about the internment camps. And not in a favorable light.

I saw this billboard in both New York and Houston ~5 years ago:
I thought it was profoundly strange, both in the sense that I don’t think man y people in Houston care about Turks or Armenians, and NYC is only a bit ahead, and also because anyone who knows about the Armenian probably isn’t likely to have their mind changed by butterflies being friends, and if you’re Turkey, you probably don’t want people who don’t know about it looking into it.

Under no circumstances am I saying that it wasn’t genocide...
...but this was attempted before in 2007 as a ploy against then-President Bush to interfere in staging for the Iraq war. They just succeeded this time.

My dad and my step mom are both big trump supporters whom i’m going to go visit in a week. This should be an interesting litmus test to see how deep the cognitive dissonance runs.
My step mom’s grandfather was a doctor who was present during the Armenian genocide, I believe some of his photos have been displayed at the Holocaust Museum (they’re big on documenting genocide in general. )
My dad is Jewish. We’ll see how it goes.

Or the Swedes, who were complicit at the very least with the Third Reich, gladly sold the Nazis iron ore well into 1944, and have done an awesome job at keeping that out of most discussion. Neutral like the Swiss, lol.

My uncle is a stereotypical boomer Trumpster who I get to see next week, if he spouts off, I wonder if I should mention this, or if he’d even fathom it.
For 45, we all know he has dreams of being a cowardly “strongman” like Erdogan, so that’s where the support comes from.
