Nice review - give her a click and give it a read!
I’m assuming this thing will outsell the 3 sedan/hatchback significantly.
Base price is just 3 grand less than a CX-5.

The CX-30 is what the CX-3 should’ve been from the start. The CX-3 is so damn tiny. I’m 5'11" and with the driver’s seat set how I like it the only way to get into the back seat is to splay my legs on either side of the driver’s seat. Meanwhile plenty of other cars in the segment can fit regular sized adults just fine.
In fact, the CX-30 might even be a better car for my wife than the CX-5 she has right now. When we were shopping for her CX-5, we also checked out Honda and she preferred the size of the HR-V over the CR-V, but the HR-V didn’t yet offer the active safety gizmos she insisted on having and the CR-V did. But there weren’t the right incentives for us on the CR-V so we moved on to Mazda.
The CX-3 was a non-starter because of the lack of interior room and harsh ride . She felt like the CX-5 was a lot more manageable to drive than the CR-V, and felt more natural in corners, but since she’s had it for about a year and a half now, she has commented that it sometimes feels bigger than necessary.
But...I have a feeling for her next car it’ll be something from Hyundai/Kia because of all the options they can be loaded up with. We don’t need a fully-loaded car but I’m really trying to get her into something with a memory function on the driver’s seat.

Yup - crazy that it was 2-based.
We have 3 kids, 3 dogs, and often have one or two more in the car with us, so we’ve got our eyes on the Telluride for my wife’s next car.

A crossover post about a crossover for families who hate crossovers.

We have 3 kids, 3 dogs,
That’s two dogs too many.

LOL - they’re fun (and they don’t live forever). I’d argue it’s
one
two many - dogs are social, and we’re all away from home for long stretches
during the day.
I think my youngest son thinks he’s a dog. He just
LOVES them.

Love the Agrestic/Weeds reference. Nice review.

That’s fair, I’m just not that much of a dog person.

She has another out there with today’s date that also needs clicks of support.

Plus the Hurracan on it’s roof from two days ago:
Looks like Stef is getting a shot over there.

She does a good job. I can’t for the life of me figure out why somebody isn’t giving her a steady paycheck with benefits.

Hopefully that will change soon.

Amen. I compared her review to Brownell’s. It was nice to have the perspective of a woman sized the way legions of women who will drive this thing as opposed to the typical man complaining how he can’t find much head or leg room in the rear of a compact CUV. That’s become a tired meme now.

me neither :(
(Al
so, thanks!)

It’s weird because Mazda’s marketing materials all refer to the CX-30 as a subcompact crossover. If that’s the case, what the heck is the CX-3?
I liked the CX-3, but you’re all right—it’s a smallboi. I forgot they based it on the lil’ Mazda2.

I liked a review with the perspective of a woman sized closer to all the women out there who will end up driving these cars. Too many reviews of compact cars are written only by 6 ft + young men who make them sound like cramped penalty boxes. You would think car mags would jump to get someone like you on staff for that reason alone.

Heh, yeah. Even some of the publications I like aren’t the greatest about having a diverse set of voices writing about new cars and the like, but it takes some considerable work to seek out good writers with under- represented perspectives. It’s work worth doing, though, for the reasons you mentioned.

I just read Bradley’s review of the same car as a case in point. I like his writing too, btw. It was obvious how the differences in build between the two of you influenced the reviews in a few important points that buyers would care about.

Yeah. I admit I fall short (ba-dum-tish) on reviewing for bigger/taller folks, and “will I be comfortable in a car?” is a major concern for a lot of readers! It definitely makes you seek out writers built like yourself (or at least a wide variety of writers) or simply sitting in a lot of different seats when you’re looking for a new car.
I think I hard-noped the Oldsmobile Aurora as a kid when I told my parents that the rock-hard backseats with a dumb protruding headrest were the least comfortable things I’d ever sat in. Going from the soft, velvety brougham seats of a Ninety-Eight to that would’ve been a huge downgrade!
I have no intention of ever having offspring, yet I think “
Will It Baby?”
is one of the most ingenious additions to the review-scape out there.

Agreed. I can see you as a good mommy though, or maybe an Auntie Stef. Kids would learn so much from you.

Auntie would be all right, although it’d have to be a non-related sort of deal. Spoiling
the
kids and
then handing
them back to a
parent sounds like a good deal.

Do you know Sharon Carty? Worth a shot, if you haven’t already sent her a note!

We’re in a few of the same groups, but that’s it. I saw that a few days ago, though, and definitely have some stuff I’d love to write for them.
