I swapped the Rally Van’s engine.......twice. Ended up putting the 3.3L back in after the 3.8 launched a rod bearing and sludged up the cooling system:

I also machined my stock plenum to accommodate the big throttle body off the 3.8:

I also swapped to 2.5L transfer gears, which took me from a 3.42 gear ratio to a 3.90 ratio, so the 3.3L now pulls as hard/harder than the 3.8. Finally some good news.


The new van got sideswiped in a parking lot hit and run this weekend:

$1900+ in damage there. Glad I keep my vehicles well insured!

Otherwise things have been normal, stepped out for a spell, but I’m back! Glad to talk to you all again!

Glad to have you back mate! A lot of us were wondering where you’d been....sucks about the 3.8L....at least the 3.3 is just as good now and that was your big complaint! You must be able to swap those thing sin annd out in your sleep now!

Took 7 hrs to swap the 3.3 back in, including rewiring the MAP sensor and changing the transfer gears in the trans.

The 3.3 works great now, the new gearing does well at covering up it’s lack of low end. I may still rebuild the 3.8 and put it back in this summer, but I’ve been thinking about selling her and the car and grabbing a 5th gen to start over on. They look bad ass off-roaded out too:

While you were out I changed the thermostat in my minivan....so basically the same as what you did.

Gad you are back. I actually searched comments on the FP when Torch (I think) posted a minivan article.
