What’s the oldest car that you still see the most of o n the road? What’s the newest formerly popular car that has just seemed to disappear? My answers below, in order:

I still see a lot of these on the road, surprisingly.
And yet, I can’t remember the last time I saw an early 90s or 80s Taurus.

Early 2000s Impalas. They are the shitty car of choice out here.
That, and 80s Chevy half tons.

For the 2nd part, it’s a tie between the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200.
For the first part, IDK - maybe the GMT 400 trucks, but they were around longer than I thought.

I would have to say old Oldsmobile/Pontiac and whatever platform the Grand-Am was on for popular but now gone. I used to see that platform all the time and now it’s gone.
As for the oldest I regularly see frequently....I would have to say Dodge Rams or GM Silverado and similar. I feel like that’s kind of a bad answer because it’s hard to tell at a glance how old they are.
The oldest design I see regularly on the roads would be horse drawn buggies. They obstruct traffic less than some drivers here

The swoopy f150s from the 90s are still around in great number
However, I never see Chrysler 300s anymore

Apparently all the Grand Ams and every other GM car of the last 25 years migrated to Wisconsin. They’re everywhere up there.

Oldest, and yes they still all look like this in three colors, white, red and green.
Newest disappearing at an alarming rate?

Oooh I just saw a Sable wagon yesterday

Pretty much any 90s “domestic” sedan can be seen frequently around here.
Meanwhile it seems Toyotas disappear from the road once they hit 10-15 years old.

There are still lots of third-gen Camrys (Camries?) and ES300s of the same period around Philly, some of them beaters and some almost showroom clean.
As for newest no-longer-represented, I’d have to say
Mitsubishi Lancers, including Evos. I see more Suzukis around than those.

Lot of GMT400s in ohio. Any form S uburban, Tahoe, or C/K. Even split head light C/Ks (88 to 90?)
13-16 Do dge darts. When the came out it was fairly popular here. But have since vanished. Would have assumed a few beat to crap ones but nope

Do you think people still try to ‘buy american’?
![]() 12/10/2019 at 10:05 |

Grand Ams are EVERYWHERE in Michigan. In all forms, from literally falling apart from rust to pristine.

Oldest I still regularly see are full size trucks. Ram’s seem to be the most common, the 94-03(?) generation.

I concur with both of these answers.

I think that many people in the US do, yes - maybe it’s more out of habit than anything, but when I go up to Wisconsin, especially rural Wisconsin, cars skew heavily American compared to the Chicago area. It’s not really “Wisconsin” either - it’s any rural area I think.

This generation Taurus. They are EVERYWHERE.
Most are ragged out beyond belief and they just keep running.

I see more 94-02 Rams than any other generation of Ram.

It’s like we’re driving around the same area!!!

My grandpa had a 2000 that he got rid of in 2016 due to rust. It was otherwise fine. He was hoping that Taurus would be the last car he would buy - it ended up being a 2015 Fusion.

That just made me remember that I used to see many 3rd and 4th gen Eclipses around, but those have mostly disappeared.

I know, right!?!
The Dart/200 was a good pull. I see them so infrequently now, that I actually forgot they existed until you said it.

The Ford Focus (Ex ST and RS) was my next choice.
Can anyone tell me what the base Focus, Dart and 200 all have in common? Anyone? Anyone?

That’s impressive! Those Outbacks can still be found around here in south central PA, but even here they most all are showing signs of rust in the typical places.

Meanwhile here that generation of F-Series is light on the ground. It just goes to show how much this differs between regions.

I don’t even see G6s much any more.

A local pizzeria still uses an Aerostar for catering but it is definintely showing its its age at this point

Interesting, I still see a fair number of the plain-Jane Focii around.
![]() 12/10/2019 at 11:07 |

There are, but it seems like there are a lot fewer of them than there was 5 years ago. The Dart and 200 never sold well, but you used to at least see them occasionally.

80's Hondas , Toyotas and Mazdas are still common sights in NM, along with trucks from the mid-late 70's not being too uncommon. Stuff from the 50's and 60's is still around, but usually not in a daily driver status.

Still tons of OBS Fords on the road here, also a lot of the jellybean generation as well.
However, there are surprisingly few of the following generation left on the road.
IMO these are one of the best trucks Ford has ever made, but numerous problems plaguing the 3 valve 5.4 have likely caused these to be scrapped en masse.
This brings me to a similar question that I should make a post about, which vehicles have had one generation outlive it’s successor ?

In the 80% of the country that isn't the coasts, yes.

I still see 700-series Volvos on the road with some regularity. They have some popularity amongst teens / young people here.

I see more of the OBS trucks than either of the other two around here.
That is an interesting question, especially depending on what you consider successors/predecessors. I look forward to this post.

At least in my area (metro CLE), Renny’s are fairly common.

I agree with the Dart. But man, I see 200's all the time, not including the one I own. I still think the 200 was underrated. It outshines the Dart (besides having a manual option).

I should clarify that I meant the 2nd gen 200. I see 1st gens frequently but not the 2nd. It wasn’t around long but I used to see them - but they’ve disappeared.

I am referring to the 2nd gen. (2015-2017). I hardly see that first gen of the 200, instead I would see that last rendition of Sebring.

It’s funny because I think it’s a good looking car, but I don’t see them often at all around here.
