I know that’s child’s play for some of our Opponauts, but it’s a bit much for me. I’m a goddamn school teacher for fuck’s sake!

Started with an impromptu trip to Yosemite, then, NYC, Dublin, London, back to Dublin to NYC to The Desert. Now I’m on to Denver.

Just took my first grad level final this week and have two more to go this week. Gonna get A’s and B’s no matter how I do on the finals. Pray for me Oppo.

So, I’m wondering how you got a commercial flight to Yosemite...

Yaaaaay Denver. And yeah, I’ll have 7 flights this week.

Fair warning, the Denver airport main terminal  is an absolute shitshow right now.

KFAT, Fresno-Yosemite International Airport. Direct service to about 15 cities in the US and Mexico from something like 8 different airlines. It is a relatively small airport (about 2 million annual passengers), but it’s not a very far drive to the park proper when the weather is nice (CA-41 and CA-140 get snowed out with some regularity this time of year).

Alternatively, you could fly in to Stockton or Sacramento, which is still a fairly reasonable drive to Yosemite. Hell, if you are going through LA or Sacramento, you can ride in a King Air 300 and fly into Merced Regional.

The Fresno-Yosemite airport might be closer to Yosemite than the Denver airport is to Denver.

Shitshow it was, but we made it  out without incident.

Yeah, we used to joke— as the goat-rodeo at the new Denver airport was being conducted— that the airport code should have been WKI, for West Kansas International.

At one stage I was up in gold country fairly often and would marvel at how far FAT was from the actual National Park entrance.  It’s close to 70 miles I thought?

I think it’s close to 70 miles by car... I’ve always thought it was fairly fanciful to use Yosemite in the name.

In fairness, I think Bozeman Airport uses “Yellowstone” in its titl e and it’s probably even farther, even via 191 to West Yellowstone.

With that lead image I was hoping these were wine or beer flights. They’re so much more fun.

I am flying with doggo for second time this tuesday. She isn’t a “therapy dog” so she has to stay in the carrier instead of in my lap during cruising. Kinda sucks. But doggo is cool with it mostly.

May you encounter a friendly flying pupper on your journey.

Yep, that sounds about right. But it makes sense from a marketing perspective, which I believe is why they changed it to its current name in the mid 90's . Not usually a huge tourist draw for Fresno on its own.
