I have begun moving into my new place

The view is the main selling point of this place, so I will continue plastering this on Oppo! I will be seeing the above image every day on my drive since this is about 2 minutes from the house. The house itself is great too, not in pristine condition and its a shared space, but its clean and the housemates are great people. Anyways here are some photos of the new space:

The living room has a very tall dome ceiling with an open kitchen attached. Being reorganized at the moment but I love the space.

Ocean view out the back. Huge backyard area too for grilling, hot tub, and just enjoying some outdoors. Major plus to me versus my current apartment.

Mountain view out the front, gotta take a picture on a clear day. Will look really nice once the winter rains bring out the spring greens.

And the number one feature for me is that I am perfectly allowed to work on my cars here! My bedroom is the corner room on the right of this image, with the whole deck there included as my private space as well. Im trying to work out to make some space under that deck as a workspace for me but theres some junk to clearout and working with the other housemates to not block anybody in.

I moved my first set of boxes over from my current place today and will slowly be setting up shop in my new abode. I didnt get any pics of my bedroom/bathroom but ill get around it to it to share my whole space once I get it set up. Its unfurnished so its an empty room right now with some boxes in the corner. Looking forward to moving in full time and enjoying the Malibu life! I will be 15 minutes from work saving me about $300 in gas per month (so more than $10 a day) plus a solid 90 minutes of my life round trip freed up. All for the same cost as im paying now!

Yeah theres a lot of crazy houses in that area. I have been enjoying looking around on zillow at the zany shit in the 10s of millions out there. Im in the cheapest house on the block at only about 3m lol.

Still runs apparently, very nice interior. Has some issues and the house owner (car owner) is trying to sell that car. So maybe I can help him work on it so that I can get that sweet parking space area.

Dont worry im still paying out the ass versus elsewhere in the country. Im renting a room in the middle of nowhere for $1200 a month. Sure its close to my job and its perfect for me, but its very much far from everything else. And because I live in LA now, that is the same price as splitting my place with my girlfriend since its with all utilities including cable/internet too.

Ive gotta explore the outdoor area a bit, apparently the parcel of land is something like 90 acres but only 11 acres is really usable and not off a cliff. Still a ton of space though that I want to hike around and explore.

Lol I really cant get that story straight. But Im confident its only 4 people living in the house itself. Theres like other buildings on the property with a couple other people but apparently they are never there? Not sure on that story. And of the four in the house, the owner is one of them and he has multiple houses so hes not there full time either.

Ive yet to meet the one housemate since he was out of town this week. But he has been there like 20 years so im sure he is alright.

S-class apparently works but I havent heard it run yet. Not used, owner is trying to sell it. Has a suspension issue but my gut guess is it has other problems too. Mint interior though which seems rare to me in the socal sun.

They are HORRIBLY out of tune. I have no ear at all and it still is obvious. But the owner is still a great pianist from what Ive heard so far. He plays everything by ear and aside from the notes being nearly half steps off, its nice to listen to. It makes my day that like midconversation he will go over to the piano and play something because he just had a thought. Real character in general.

I think im closer to there in the valley now lol. But yeah lots of great places in malibu that are real close to me. I definitely want to get a bicycle too and explore my immediate area. NOBODY goes up this way on Deer Creek and Yerba Buena. Its rather off the grid, terrible pavement, and doesnt really go anywhere. But thats why I love it out there. Some legit 10+ mile hikes that offer commanding views and really interesting geology. It would be neat to bike around instead of drive though for sure. The hills can be wild though so its surely a workout.

Also, im definitely trying to do an oppo drive and then bbq at my place in the near future after I get all moved in. So ill be sure to post on the email list. Deer Creek Rd was repaved recently so its actually fun to drive too.

I'm still concerned I'll get murdered in my sleep or burn in a wild fire or get eaten by a mountain lion. But yeah otherwise I'm living the dream for now. At worst it's a super short commute and close to some cool hikes. So I can't really see what could go wrong.

That looks awesome. The best part is that 90 minutes of your life you get back everyday. That is priceless, and I don't miss having a significant commute in any way.

For sure! I'm going to be surprised how little I have to commute now. It will be a massive change for sure. I'm gonna have a hell of a time getting to the airport for my many flights next year but it's a small price to pay about once a month instead of every day. I definitely can't get an Uber out there so my best bet will just be to drive and park. At least traffic patterns out there means it won't take any longer really though.

I cant grasp the concept of just playing by ear, its crazy to me. I can read music and I comprehend scales and chords. But I absolutely need a sheet of music to play something. Ive memorized music but its entirely muscle memory and not really any connection of the notes to the music. I cant play the piano just because ive never learned the techniques, but having played the xylophone, marimba, and vibraphone, its the same key layout. Im better off with rhythms though, definitely want to be a competent drummer at some point in my life, just never lived somewhere where I wouldnt get evicted for playing.
