I used to love Alice and Chains. Sounds like my college years.

I bought Jar of Flies in Montoursville, PA, in 1993 on the way to the arcade with my brother. IIRC, it was a pretty snowy day, but the roads were clear. We had to wait until we got home because mom’s ‘88 Caravan only had a tape deck. I remember this so distinctly because my brother played Mortal Kombat with his last few quarters while I sat there and played with the actual plastic flies that were embedded in the spine of the CD case. MP3's don’t get you that level of gimmick.
First impression: WTF, this doesn’t rock at all! Except maybe hat one track I Stay Away but the rest of it sucks.
A year later: Masterpiece.
I still like to play Nutshell and Whale & Wasp on the guitar with the kids.

The more you dig into their catalog away from the radio hits, the better they get .
‘tis a shame that the only band of that era that is still around is Pearl Jam. Everybody else got heroin’d or Courtney Love’d .
