at the company christmas party and i n eed your help on how to do it
no you sick- o, i’m not trying to bang a co-worker, we are having a yankee swap. I have a bunch of leftover walnut wood from my island countertop and thought it would be cool to make something for the swap. The first that that came to mind is a cutting board, but that isn’ t really something I would want from a swap and I am gues sing other people wouldn’ t either. It would be great if it wa s something simple to make. The more I think of it, the more I think a bottle of booze is a better choic e. Price limit is $10 and my time is free (kinda) what could I make? if I dont, what would be a good swap gift for $10?

Think of something practical that almost anyone would use any day and wouldn’t be considered something you could just throw out. ( Maybe a coaster set? Do people still use coasters? )
Now, can it be made out of wood and protected in such a way that for its intended purpose, it’ll last for ages?
If you can fit both of these criteria, you’ve got a good excuse to get to chopping up some fine walnut so you can give them your wood and not make it any weirder than it needs to be.

What about a small clock? I have a @#$%load of clock mechanisms laying around. I’ll sell you one for the price of shipping it to you.

coasters is probably something I could manage. I think you have the right points on whether or not the thing would be a good gift.

I’d love a walnut cuttingboard in an office gift exchange, people will fight over it. anyone who likes to cook would love that gift.

But flip the smile upside down so it gives you a look of disgust for what it just witnessed.

Good place to show off your wood.

A fancy wood cutting board would be good! Maybe not too fancy, I’ve got one that’s a bit too nice to use. A pity you changed jobs, otherwise I’d say figure out how to brand it with a mobile ICBM launcher, but that joke might be lost on your new coworkers.

while that would be cool, i dont think i have the lathe and blades required for that sort of thing.

Booze and wood are a perfect combo!
Just make sure they drink the booze first!

Got an old lawnmower blade? Break out th e sander and make a knife. Use your wood for the handle.

T he new thing now is Charcuterie boards. Variety of meats, cheeses, and a few s auces. Basically an adult lunchable.
Great for parties, or yourself. When not being used for fancy meats, can also be a cutting board.
So a cutting board essentially is what I am recommending. Maybe engraving some nice words, or a logo could add some personalization.

I may have to do this with my middle schoolers.

That is awesome but probably not good for an office party. I might try that s self.

Well that the other job there would have been no party

That’ s not a bad idea. I think I might have an old clock i can pull from in the basement

Also true I guess. I’d say brand an Allroad on there instead, but you are clearly not the most Allroady person at your new office...

my boss just got his car back from the shop today

Hmm, an Allroad probably would have been a better choice than a TT (or whatever that was) for the recent weather.

The TT is AWD. The guy says its a blast to drive in the snow.

I seriously want to put this in my kitchen but the wife won’t let me. (she has no clue ‘why’ I would want this )
