On my drive home after dinner I came across quite a scene. Hundreds of VHS tapes exploded everywhere on the street by my apartment.
I think the newly installed speed humps have claimed their first victim.

I hope someone cleans that up soon. That’ll be an epic mess if the tape starts unspooling

And, I’m assuming, nothing of value was lost.

VHS tapes aren’t recyclable because the nature of the tape itself is rather toxic. So throwing it in the trash is pretty bad in a landfill. Burning them is worse than burning styrofoam. Who knows the reason.
We had a huge number of romance novels scattered about the interstate a few years back.
Old folks homes love the tapes cause its tech they know, they can record shows and re-record over them as needed. So take your tapes there and they may take em, also the old books the bookstore won’t buy from you.

How’s the pizza at Pumphouse?
Also for some reason, seeing all those VHS tapes reminds me of Videodrome.
Soooo...long live the new flesh

Wrong... VHS can be a time capsule to a previous Era. We need to preserve these old recordings so we can look back at them for their cultural relevance. Out of print VHS with no digital releases do exist. I saw this on my Google recommendations and see a tragedy...

I just checked my collection. And it is still OK. We still have a working VHS player too.
I use to use them to make mix tapes for parties. The 4 hour tapes were incredibly useful when made and played on a stereo VHS machine that could record and play at half normal speed...eight hours of music without really trying!!

I know some VCR repair men in Milwaukee, I’m sure they can fix this.
