Jeep G rand Cherokee. Unusual in itself (this is not a happy hunting ground for Jeep!) this one is seriously unusual. It’s an American market one and didn’t leave the factory with rear indicators. As this i s rightfully illegal here steps have been taken to legalise it. What used to be reversing lights have been repurposed and the now missing lights have been replaced by one stuck under the rear bumper.

So red turn signals are illegal there?

As they should be!

As in most of the world!

Agreed! It’s crazy that the US mandates traction control and rear view cameras, but the brake and turn signal can be shared. Nuts.

What’s also insane is all the Euro market cars that then don’t use amber turn signals in the US. How is having separate US-market taillights efficient?

My favorite is when US marked Euro cars (mostly VW products) still have the amber turn signal segment but blink the brake light instead. The 2013-2015 USDM Tiguan did this.

I’m okay with it ‘cuz it means we can have sequential turn signals.

It’s to do with size requirements in the US (
and presumably Canada). Rest of the world indicators are often too small for them so r
ather than do a compl
ete redesign some makers repurpose the brake lights.

So can the rest of us...

The first Opel/Vauxhall Insignia-Buick Regal had that. I saw someone's dashcam and in front was a Buick Regal turning left, flashing it's taillight.

Like the Ford Transits. The Euro car, the clear area on the rear cluster is divided into indicator and reverse light, for North America, the clear area is the reversing lamp only.
