Yeah, it’s an archaic piece of technology, but when you need it, you need it. For those who don’t know what it is, it’s an adapter that lets you play VHS-C tapes, from a camcorder, in standard VHS decks. Now that I finally found my Mini DV and Digital8 camcorders, I was thinking of going back into doing video conversions as a side gig. But I’m not ready to pay $35- 40 for one of these adapters. In addition, I have a co-worker that wants one in order to view videos of his late son, and I said that I would keep an eye out for one for him.
In all the years I’ve been digging around at the Goodwill Outlet I’m surprised that I haven’t been able to find one; plenty of camcorders, sure, but no adapters.

I’ve got two reels of EIAJ video tape I think my dad recorded sometime in the 70s. I’d love to see what’s on them but transfers are a bit expensive and a working machine is extremely rare at this point.

I know what you mean. I’d love to see all of those 8mm films my late father recorded in the early ‘70s, but I don’t have the equipment to convert those.

I actually do have a projector that does both regular 8mm and Super8. I transferred a bunch of my grandmother’s films from the 60s years ago with a miniDV. Luckily it had a preset that ran and half frame rate with long exposures so that solved the flicker problem pretty well. I haven’t tried with my DSLR which I think has custom frame rates with a little hacking.
I might have a little time over Christmas if you want to send me a film or two.

Thanks for the offer. The films and projector are 1,800 miles away at my parent’s place in SoCal. I might have to check into that mode you mentioned on the mini DV camcorder. If my Sony has that I might be able to do the transfer myself, perhaps the next time I'm back home.

I think I used to have one of these at my parent’s place. I have no idea if it still exists somewhere.

Sadly I do not, I didn’t know these were even a thing. I used to run the playback out from my digital8 camera into the input of a VCR and copy to vhs that way on the rare occasion I needed/wanted something off the little tapes
.
