Craigslist motor acquired. Now comes the fun part of stripping off all the four year old tattered a nd battered components.
Progress is slow and my mechanical ineptitude is at the forefront, but it's happening... slowly.

Wh at are we looking at and what’s it going in?

Well that’s how you become competent. I did my first solo engine swap on a Jeep Cherokee in a single stall apartment garage with an unknown Craigslist engine. Took a couple weeks working in the evenings and waiting for parts. Still running strong 5 years later. Good luck.

A EJ25D with some of the components removed from it. It’s going into my ‘99 Legacy Outback, which has an EJ25D itself with good accessories/hoses/belts/etc, but the motor itself is toast.

Those components are FOUR years old?

I’m hoping I can have it in the car over the weekend, at least to the point where all I need to do is install a few accessory components.
It’s trial by fire at this point.

Correct. It’s been sitting in a dry barn. The engine itself is fine, but the con sumable components themselves do not inspire confidence.

I had to install and remove the new engine twice for various problems. I found out after I tried the first time that the Craigslist engine was from a Grand Cherokee, which has slightly different accessories and a different flywheel. Had to pull it the second time because I didn’t seat the torque converter properly.
It was so incredibly frustrating, but totally worth it when you turn that key and hear your car again.

Dude, my slant6 is 33 years old and has never been inside a garage and looks newer than that!

I’ve seen a few instances of folks doing some major work in apartments....but isn’t there something in the rental agreement that forbids it?

Yep, but they can’t complain about what they can’t see

Oxidization is a hell of a thing.
