What Would You Say To Buying A New Ford Raptor?!!!

Let’s say I have a friend (I do have friends) and suppose they wanted to buy a new F-150 Raptor... what say you? Should I *ahem* “friend” buy a Raptor?!

Kinja'd!!!

Credit to Team Ford Vegas, they seem to be the highest volume Raptor seller.

Seriously, with all the issues new diesel trucks are having, and the fact a Raptor pretty much holds its weight better than gold, it can’t be a bad idea?

Kinja'd!!!

I’d probably take any color for the right price. Dark is preferable, lead foot grey looks excellent but might not age well.

I mean it does cost north of $60,000, it gets terrible mileage (15 city / 18 hwy), and it isn’t going to tow much, even though that isn’t a necessity right now.

I’ve had my 4Runner for the last year and a half, added 6,000 miles, and had 0 issues (knocking on wood). I bought it for $15,500 and I believe I could get just about every dollar back out of it...

Kinja'd!!!

The trailer backing aid is equipped lol!

What say you Oppofam? Ditch the ‘Yota and bring a dinosaur home? Or keep the un-killable king and watch the wallet swell?

Spent some time with one; wasn’t my thing. They’re a safe place to put money based on history, I don’t think you’d lose your ass entirely by any means.

I like trucks but I live in a bigger city so it was kind of a serious issue parking it and such. They drive nice and move out really well. Would be fun but fun as a second vehicle and not a primary for my life. All depends on what you want it to do and the experience you’re hoping to have!

The good and bad about Raptors is that they're done. You're getting a complete package - it's already got the shocks, engine, appearance, etc. That being said it is done so there's nothing more to do. Oppo seems to have a tinkerer's mindset and we're always finding ways to make approvements here and there.

You won’t really lose much money via depreciation so it’s a good choice. Coworker had a ‘14 SCrew w/all the options and last year upgraded to a ‘ 18 SCrew w/ 802a/ every option. Not a fan of how it sounds and he gets 14mpg everywhere but is a very nice truck in and out . Personally would get a ‘19 (for the Live Valve shocks) 802a (Luxo barge + Torsen) in Performance Blue, tech pack, bead locks, rear appliqué delete, decal delete, glass roof, bed liner, heated rear seats @ $72,605 sticker. If you get the 800a/ 801a I’d get the Torsen option, seems silly without it. Haven’t been in one with the Live Valves, but the standard Foxes (on both gens ) are a bit soft and floaty IMO . I’ve driven a stock ‘13 SCrew fancy version (and now modded with 3.0s, bedcage, 37s). It’s a real fun driver but still too soft and rolls too much in the corners for me on the road.

I considered it (among a couple other trucks) but ended up in a ZR2. I like the size and how it rides better . It ’s also about half the price and I didn’t want to put that much down (wanted to finance $30k or less) or have a big note so was an easy choice for me. Really wish I had the ventilated seats though!

Do it!

First off, do you live in Montana? From Montana? What is the MT for? I ask cuz I live in MT. Anyway....

It all comes down to what you actually want. The raptor is incredibly cool. There’s no other way to put it. it has some of the best on-road presents of any current vehicle. That being said, it is, without a doubt, about a thousand times more truck than almost anyone will ever fully utilize. I mean, most of us daily drive 96% of the time and occasionally drive down a nasty road when camping, fishing, etc. I don’t know anybody who bajas their daily driver.

So, and I say this cuz I was in your exact position one year ago, go take a look at the ram rebel. For the price you’ll pay to get even a used raptor, you can get a brand new rebel with lots of options. Can the rebel do what the raptor does off-road? N o , not even close. Is it undoubtedly a more comfortable daily driver? 100%. Also, the interior materials on the rebel are multiple orders of magnitude nicer than that of the raptor. It has always kind of blown my mind that you pay as much as you do for a new raptor and the interior is almost entirely hard black plastic. Meanwhile, the rebel is full of thoughtfully selected and carefully designed premium materials. I highly recommend you go take a look at the rebel. Godspeed.

I say if you can afford it, do it.

I looked really hard at *used* Raptors when I was truck shopping but just couldn’t stomach the price difference. I found a few in my price range, but for a couple thousand less I bought a base FX4 with 60,000 less miles, and the long box. I still really want a Raptor, but I love my FX4, it will be more than capable for my needs, and there’s room for upgrades.

Also, my insurance guy wanted to be very sure that my new truck was indeed not a Raptor because that’s a whole different level  of insurance apparently , so you might want to look into that.

The pockets can suffer a little bit more abuse, not much more. The insurance will be expensive for my age, driving record, and location, but I’m not too worried as the E60 M5 was about $400 year for full coverage at $1k deductible. That’s for a pleasure car at 3k miles per year. I doubt I’ll put 5k miles or more on a Raptor, the insurance company won’t care about that as soon as I say ‘daily driver’.

My daily has been a 4Runner for the last 1-1/2 years with a mere 6k miles added. The wife’s Sienna minivan has been the main family hauler. A Raptor for me will be a daily, but a nicely kept, low mileage, and mostly a toy to play with on weekends. It will be a little more of something to take care of as the 4Runner is nothing more than transportation for me at this point. I haven’t done anything fun with it. Oh also, get the 802A package. I bounced between this and a stupid soccer mom SUV as my DD and tow vehicle. I went the GLE route so I can make a really really stupid purchase in 2023.

It’s hard to stomach considering highest I’ve ever had was 1.9%...

If I can get 802A for a good price I’ll do it. Right now they’re running about 10k more and I don’t know if I want to pay that.

Mind you, my boys are 14 and 12 now, but there was a day when we ( meaning my wife) had to plan ‘quiet’ activities to distract the kids when they were younger. It does get better... or at least different.

I am waiting for the GT500 powered Raptor or Hellkitty powered Ram TRX to come out.

The market for V8 trucks isn’t going anywhere at all.

V8s are too much of a status symbol for Americans.

There is a market for them, and they will sell like hot cakes.
