Kinja'd!!!

Occasionally, the wildlife is happy to front up for the camera. This is a mostly harmless species of monitor known as a Lace Monitor. Most Australian’s lump these and other species like them under the moniker ‘Goanna’. This particular specimen is a fairly decent size (~5 foot) for around here but I have seen one up around eight feet long...

That’s exactly what he/she was...

There’s been drinks all round and tomorrow morning I’m doing another water run to top everything up again...

Under five feet, it may as well be eight feet because without knowing what it was called I’d be calling it a, ‘what the f**king hell is that, jesus it’s massive, does it bite!?’, is what I’d call it.

Mostly harmless.

It’s the “mostly” bit that would worry me, seeing as though it’s an Australian animal.

You should name it Sam

Sam Sung, cos it’s a 60 inch monitor...

Other options: Sony Jim, Pam Asonic, Hell o Dolby.

The only proper name for a goanna is Joanna.

Bonus points if your name is Percival.

For it to bite you...you’d have to catch it. If it did bite you then it s teeth are quite sharp, its bite strength reputedly quite strong and its oral hygiene is questionable. So the result is potentially dangerous. And all that is predicated on it not getting its claws into you...

So, like most Australian wildlife,  they are entirely harmless providing you leave them well alone...

That is the intention...it's on its way to the new shed in the meantime.

That’s kind of true. A salt water croc for example  is perfectly harmless, right up to the point that it decides that it’s hungry and you’re within range.

That’s the trick... always stay out  of range. You'll be safe enough in Ireland!
