I haven’t had the electric starter on the Cub this whole time, mostly because of my own stupidity. In my impatience to get it running I ordered the wrong battery, which had these teeny tiny 20 gauge integrated leads that couldn’t deliver enough current to turn over the engine.
I finally got annoyed/bored enough to do something about it and I found a battery that (just barely) fits and allowed me to build my own leads out of 10 gauge and now the electric starter works!

Engine’s actually out of an ‘81 but still. It’s impressive that this bike fired right up for me after sitting in a shed for a decade. I had to change the spark plug and rewire a turn signal and that was it.

Nice improvising!

I don’t think this was improvising so much as “putting it back to the way it should be”

Well, you made do with what was around rather than just buying more stuff. That’s pretty much the definition of good improvising in my book.
