That was insane. I love how Mason Rudolph first gets his helmet yanked off, then he gets clubbed in the head with it, then gets shoved to the ground by another Browns player, then takes a thigh to the head from his own teammate while starting to get up off the ground.

If he did that to Phillip Rivers, he would never work in the NFL again.
If he did that to Tom Brady, he woul d already be cremated.

At the end of the initial tackle it looked like Randolph was yanking on Garrett's helmet and that might be what started the whole thing. But looking further maybe his left hand was caught? So maybe it all started because of a misunderstanding? Either way, what a shit show!

I posted a snarky comment to the ‘I’m a sports blogger, I need an affordable car’ FP article about ex-deadspin bloggers. That’s all.

It’s like the new WWE game with all the glitches.

I’m a Pittsburgh fan, but I really question Rudolph’s innocence here. I want to give him the benefit of doubt here, but unless his hand was legitimately stuck, he wasn’t innocent in this whole thing. Granted, it doesn’t excuse Garret for what he did though. Maybe Rudolph should have shown that anger towards his swiss-cheese offensive line. Or his offensive coordinator.

I thought sports helped build character.

100% agreed. Three pro bowlers on the O-line and they played like they only just found out what football is five minutes before the game started. Neither team means anything to me, and I usually root for the underdog in games like this so I was having fun watching the browns do well for once. But that was a hell of a dirty game. I really hope all the guys who got hurt are ok, particularly Johnson, bleeding from his ear. That hit was nasty.

That was one of the problems I had with the game. I get it, divisional games can get pretty chippy. But I blame the officiating crew for not having a better handle on the game. When Randall got ejected, the officiating crew should have gone to both sidelines and given them a warning. I’ve seen it done in other games like this, and usually the dirty play calms down.
Yes, these are all grown men and shouldn’t need someone to tell them to act like an animal. But, it can’t hurt to tell them you’re laying down the law either.

I’ve played this sport for almost 20 years up through the collegiate level. I’ve been involved in scuffles. Nothing this bad, but punches were thrown. The take of “Mason is just as much in fault for instigated it by trying to remove his helmet” is irrelevant. When people are fighting, it’s their natural instinct to inflict as much damage as possible. Nobody thinks, “I’m only going to partially kick this guy’s ass.” If he successfully removed Myles’ helmet, the story and outcome would be different. Both would be as guilty. But since Myles’ retaliatory attempt to remove his helmet and use it as he did, he is at fault. Was it instigated? Yes, but in the NFL, there are little to no punishments for shoving and grabbing helmets (besides the obvious facemask/hands to the face penalty flags). People bang around and get into shoving matches all the time in this sport, and if it breaks up fairly quickly, a flag usually is never thrown. But since punches and kicks and objects were used as weapons. Those offenders are at fault. I don’t think Mason should get any more than one week suspension. Myles should be done for the year.
