They delivered. It’s got a kick, but I can still feel my face.
I’ve tried a bunch of new teriyaki joints since moving work areas to Lynnwood, but... Nothing has even come close to dethroning the place down the street from me. Tender meat, great seasoning, massive portions... And they have great beef and pork too!

Go back and tell them to take the training wheels off, then report back here.

I get extra white guy spicy.

Spotted on a food truck in Austin.

I asked for the “ spiciest stuff” at a local outdoor restaurant in Bangkok.
Never again. I was crying molten tears

I'll give you... One rice ball, 10 chicken slices and... Two extra sauce containers. Final offer.

Seriously. One of the things I love about my local Indian place is that, I swear, they step up the spicy a little bit every time I order (I always ask for spicy) waiting for me to back off a bit.
Update: I'm about to cry uncle on their Channa Masala.

Wow, that looks like a heck of a portion. Enjoy.
I’ve gone through spice phases. When I was younger I was all about getting it as hot as possible. I've now mellowed out a bit. I want heat, but not if it comes at the expense of flavor.

They missed Thai spicy.

Come up to Chicago and give it a try yourself!
It *is* really good, too spicy or not.

“White guy spicy”
That’s an oxymoron in Asia.
![]() 11/12/2019 at 16:35 |

But I am weak! Though seriously, the Asian restaurants around me are seriously mild in terms of spiciness. Maybe I should set up a Grubhub account under a Chinese alias and see if I get something with a little more spice.

I must know where this place is (I’ll be flying into Seattle for an interview later this week).

As do I friend. As do I.

And this is standard. You can make any order a large, where one full box is meat, and the other is rice + salad.

Believe me, I know. I began to except that with every meal in Thailand I ran the risk of my tongue exploding.
Luckily for every spicy dish, there was a sweet Thai chili dish. Mmmmmm

Teriyaki Plus, Kirkland! Avoid the BBQ place next door, it's atrocious.

Poor me, I haven’t traveled to Asia yet to experience the real thing - but between Indian, Thai, Korean, Japanese etc I need to go!
![]() 11/12/2019 at 16:58 |

There is absolutely something to that. My in-laws are Chinese and we have a close friend who is Indian - through them I can get the real stuff and it’s quite a bit spicier if you want it that way.

Traffic in Kirkland is atrocious night & day, thanks Google. I gotta be in Bellevue tomorrow night @ 6:00, trying to see if I can rent a helicopter. Failing that, I should probably head out now to be there in time

Honestly I’d do it again just for the food.
Wait, no.
I'd do it again... Just for the dragon fruit.

Hey! Traffic is perfectly reasonable between 12:30am and 1:00am.
And besides, now you can rent a lime scooter to get where you need to be in style

Yep, me too. I have connections in most of the big Seattle tech companies. If it’s not Oracle, then I’ll get into one of them..

My Chinese friends (both ABC and FOTB) have told me that you will get a different recipe as a Chinese person compared to a Euro-looking customer. I’m sure that varies with the restaurant, the region, etc. But it does make business sense. A good Chinese restaurant that caters to a certain crowd and wants to stay in business does well to learn what the crowd expects and give that to them.
I keep sriracha around to spice up my whatever, but it’s always better to just cook the spice into a dish than to add afterwards, just like it’s better to season a dish properly while cooking than to add salt at the table.

That looks amazing. I just ate that yesterday from a Teriyaki place in Kent, but now I want it again.

I think my stomach is more intolerant of spicy food now than 10 years ago, but god damn do I still love it.
Do you have any idea why teriyaki is such a big thing in Washington (or the Seattle area, whatever)? I’m on board with it (chicken and rice is a winning combo anywhere) but I wouldn’t have expected it to be anywhere in the USA.
