For 50,000 years God has been trying to convince humans to stay the fuck out of Australia. He’s tried sharks, spiders, snakes, jellyfish, drought, locusts, Pauline Hanson: none of it’s worked. This year it appears his plan is to burn the little bastards out.

Doesn’t surprise me - the ash is even brightening up the sunsets over here.

What starts your fires there?
Ours (California) are mainly caused by negligence.

arson, storms, too hot and dry, not enough burning off in winter months means too big a fuel load.
take your pick really

Most of the current fires in NSW began weeks ago as a result of dry lightning. After that further flare ups have b een the result of spot fires ahead of the main fires, vehicle accidents and, of course, arson.
The power networks used to be a real problem but after the Black Saturday fires in Victoria in 2009 and a massive grass fire in South Australia in 2013(?) were both the result of failed electrical infrastructure...a lot of coin has gone into networks.
That all said... tomorrow is going to be well risky.

On a more serious note, I intend to move our important paperwork and electronic data into the shed tomorrow morning as the house (in its current state) is not practically defensible in the event of a bushfire impacting upon it. We don’t even have the available water on hand to fight a fire...at best it'll be a bucket and blower job. Or a really expensive BBQ.
Such an event is incredibly unlikely but it’s not a difficult job regardless.

So basically it’s burning anywhere that’s not an actual desert and where there’s therefore something to burn?

Shit, that’s not a fun thought. Good luck.
