Decided doing all the gaskets on my 3.8 while it was out was a good idea, so I’ve got it down to the block right now.

She doesn’t look too bad. Some signs of “stop leak” in the block, so I want to flush that out before putting it back together, otherwise everything looks decent outside being dirty thanks to a leaky valve cover.

Strangely enough, I did them on the 3.3 before it went in and apparently their blown already....

How many miles on that engine?  The piston tops look super clean.  Maybe they’ve been steam cleaned?  :(

They only had mild carbon build up that wiped off with a rag and degreaser. It only has 100k on it. Still has the factory honing on the cylinder walls and had perfect compression.

Nice.  Even knowing that’s after some manual cleanup, those look good.  Definitely a good call on doing the gaskets now while it’s easy.

Other than the mess from the leaky valve covers it looks quite good internally so far. Hopefully the bottom end looks as good.

Those are very flat topped pistons. How huge is the chamber on these / how tiny is the valve lift?

The chamber is decent sized. I t runs .443" of valve lift from the specs I can find. 9.6:1 compression.
