We are painting this B-17 and it was out on the ramp this afternoon after it was primed. Pretty sure it is a G model, but the chin turret has been deleted. I think it may be the movie Memphis Belle (the real one is at the Air Force Museum) as the other airworthy Gs still have their turrets.

Original dorsal turret? Could be one of the stripped navy versions.

No chin turret, so it’s not a G. Maybe an F like the Memphis Belle ?

So if I had a B-17 and I wanted Tech Ops to paint it for me, how much would that cost? Or are you guys doing it gratis ?

based on appearance, yes I would agree, but a number of later models were chopped up for various roles, and the chin would just add drag.
“ 48 ex-USAAF B-17s for patrol and air-sea rescue work. The first two ex-USAAF B-17s, a B-17F (later modified to B-17G standard) and a B-17G were obtained by the Navy for various development programs. [150] At first, these aircraft operated under their original USAAF designations, but on 31 July 1945 they were assigned the naval aircraft designation PB-1, a designation which had originally been used in 1925 for the Boeing Model 50 experimental flying boat. [158]
Thirty-two B-17Gs [159] were used by the Navy under the designation PB-1W, the suffix -W indicating an airborne early warning role”

My fathers band plays the CAF gala every year, last year when that showed up fresh from paint the hangar emptied out and the band wonder where everyone went.

I need to get down and visit the CAF hangars someday. I’d volunteer, but they are all the way down in PTC and I live on the north side.
