Setting up an aquarium.

Nice! Its glass tank, make sure you leveled it well or the bottom will crack after a few days, don’t ask me how I know.
What type of setup are you planning?

A couple of goldfish, some anubias and elodea and rocks. Nothing complicated. Right now just put gravel in and filled with water, letting it age for a few days before I do anything else.

Sounds good, my favorite part of every aquarium I built was the setup part.

It’ll be my first “
planted”
aquarium though, so I’ll see how that goes. I’ve bought live
plants before, but solely for use as fish food. Goldfish will tear up a huge quantity of elodea/anacharis in a day or two.

Goldfish will pull up anything not potted. If you want lush growth, you’ll have to increase the available light, supplement the water chemistry with iron, increase the available CO2, and, if you aren’t using pots, add real soil underneath the gravel. Also, the temperature range for goldfish and tropical plants are incompatible. Adjust the temp for the plants and it will be too warm for the goldfish. You can build an environment that works with goldfish, but you have to be really careful about your plant selection. Most of the compatibles are pond plants and will want to grow above the waterline.

I will probably be putting in anubias since I can rubberband them to rocks so the goldfish can’t dig them up, and then growing a supply of anacharis in a separate
tank so I can replenish the aquarium as the goldfish eat them. Nothing very fancy.
