3 true icons of the 1970s, all gone in 1 day. Gene Okerlund was the one constant on those Sunday morning wrestling shows I watched as a kid - and somehow, it was always his stoic face that I watched - not whatever crazy he was interviewing. RIP.

You’re right! Mean Gene was like the Walter Cronkite or Dan Rather of Pro Wrestling. I think there were other “sportscaster/newsmen” on the sidelines of the ring during pro wrestling in the 80s but it wasn’t NEWS unless Mean Gene brought it to you!

Because he did it so well! He’s like one of those character actors in Hollywood that isn’t a “star” but is absolutely critical to making a great film. He was perfect! He sold it. His deadpan performance as the interviewer while Macho Man or Hulk Hogan were doing there thing. That shit is GOLD
