Why do they do that? They don’t even take the expensive parts, this is lazy vandalism 1/10, failed.

I’m just glad these things aren’t around me - one of the few plusses of suburbia, I suppose.

And these particular ones in particular.

Here they at least take the batteries and the electric motors and the brakes!

That didn’t take long. I think these things are stupid and they are all over SF and the south bay.

Oh yeah, I totally want a few thousand of these in this kind of shape just laying around the city streets.
![]() 01/02/2019 at 16:05 |

I had the impression that most of the scooters lying around were in a similar state of disrepair, though?

“No dumping. Goes to ocean.”
Great, I only need to take a piss!
We have those on our small-town suburban storm drains now, too. I always figured anyone who cares about ecology already knows where storm drains go. And anyone who doesn’t won’t care about a sign.

There are a few of these outside of my apartment that showed up recently. Been meaning to rent one some day just for the novelty of it. Not surprised this has happened though, I am sure something similar may happen to ones near me.

Can’t you just rip off the GPS and take the whole thing?
![]() 01/02/2019 at 17:31 |

I can’t imagine these lasting very long around college campuses with a reputation for heavy drinking.
They would definitely be fun for the first weekend . Surely t he life expectancy of a functioning rent-a-scooter is inversely proportional to the number of drunk bros in the area.

Im not that well informed about e scooters, but mobik es and such are taken to a pool of water to ruin the electronics (and the gps) , then they break the locks, remove the electronics and sell it as a regular bike.

In San Diego, at least, they use Uber-like contractors to drive around and position the scooters and somehow charge them. So the scooters are positioned on corners in neat groups of four or five. And then there are stray random scooters dropped off by users across sidewalks, or wherever. And riders everywhere with no helmets on.

It’s bad enough in downtown SF as a pedestrian with the bicycle messengers. I can’t imagine a bunch of idiots on scooters running into people.

As I rode around San Diego today, between Pacific Beach and Balboa Park, I could see that the scooter people are putting a lot of effort into positioning these things.

No, as it turns out. Looks like this was a gathering of the broken ones by contractors who position and service these.
![]() 01/02/2019 at 20:26 |

I think that was actually a collection of broken ones awaiting pickup by a contractor.

Plenty of Stupid to go around on that. Meaning the scenario, not your comment...

Last time I was out SV way , they were just starting with this scooter bullshit, more or less.
Their “positioning” solution? Literally throwing an armful of them out of a slow rolling van.

Arizona State University banned them from campus, if that’s any indication of how well it was going.

It looks like they’re trying a bit harder than that here in San Diego.

That just means you need to try harder to run them out of town before they start just dumping the damaged shitheaps in the ocean.
