Lots of cool offroad rigs on this trip, none of which I photographed. Then there is this.
Not a bad way to hit the trails I suspect.

As long as you don’t need parts.... My dad used to run a parts store in a Marfa-sized West Texas town. Tourists would break down and be surprised that he didn’t have a part for their Saab. There probably isn’t a single Land Rover part within 100 miles of Marf a!

I always assume that if something breaks I’m SOL, even in the Discovery. Like... if I need a battery or some fluids, sure. Anything else is going to be a multi-day problem.

The side steps and snorkel are incongruous. I’m uncomfortable.

Ironically I was back home for a funeral in my Volvo, which grenaded an idler pulley and left me stranded for two days waiting on parts. My dad never once said “I told you so”, but I know he was thinking it!
