The Saabaru had a sudden onslot of problems ranging from a major fuel leak to valve cover gaskets and more, so it had to go. Instead of yet another interesting (read: unreliable) used car, I’m now in a Habanero Orange Mk7 Jetta S. What do you wanna know about it?
And yes, Habanero Orange is basically Oppo Orange.

if you put an oppo sticker on it, will it even be visible? congrats!

Specs on the Jetta? And is this just a rental, or the real deal?

Congrats, that's a beautiful orange.

1.4 Turbo, 147hp/184lb-ft of torque. 8-speed auto, 30mpg city/4ohwy. 0-60 in 7.6 second. It’s a lease.

Nice! How’re you liking it so far?
![]() 01/01/2019 at 11:13 |

So far, so good. I was surprised at the level of standard equipment. Only complaints are the fact that it has a slightly lackluster stereo and the fact that I hit me knees on the steering column when getting in and out despite it being tilt/telescope.

I hate that my loaner isn’t current gen. For what you can get these for, they are a steal thanks to the cheapness of the previous gen. And these are so much better. One part of the Jetta that I have grown to enjoy is the 1.4, while it’s not my 2.0, it’s plenty punchy.

Regular gas or premium?

Nice color. Did this ad influence you in any way?

Regular

That’s a beautiful color! And my family is going into 2019 with a brand new car, too; the xB was traded in yesterday for the new vehicle. There was a Jetta just like yours on the lot.

All VW models will run fine on 87 now, even the R and GTI.

I run regular on my Mk6 from time to time, no problems. But, I usually fill up at Costco.

I think the new Jetta is a handsome car, I was looking for a low mile prior generation diesel before dieselgate and couldn't find a manual for less than crazy money. However, my car radar mainly went up about Saabaru. I really wanted one of those as a daily, but as your experience showed they are probably all getting past their born on date for reliable daily work, so my window of opportunity has passed.

On heathens put stickers on painted body work

Neat. Altho I have to ask. Why not a Golf?

Very nice, luuurve that color. I’d be interested in long term reliability (I heard they got better)

Congratulations! Could we see an interior pic?

Lovely looking car, great colour.
Is that the same 1.4TSi engine that’s made by Skoda in Mlada Boleslav?
I think it’s the same one as mine.

But what's the new vehicle?
![]() 01/01/2019 at 12:46 |

Interesting. I have never seen a recent one. I don’t think we’re getting the Jetta in Germany any more.
![]() 01/01/2019 at 12:48 |

Mine also had 160k miles on it. Those with much lower miles might be ok.

Was like $80 more a month for the lease

Will keep y’all updated

Thanks! I believe so
![]() 01/01/2019 at 13:07 |

thats so weird. The Jetta was meant to be the premium model over the golf. not the other way around.
![]() 01/01/2019 at 13:12 |
|
It’s a good engine. Had it in the last two Superb’s (different power outputs) and it didn’t want for power.
![]() 01/01/2019 at 13:14 |

That hasn’t been that way for a decade or more. The last gen Jetta was a platform that debuted in the early 2000's, sold specifically because Americans wouldn’t buy a hatch, and were punished for it. This gen seems to be more of a return to the Mk5, which was on par with the Golf.
![]() 01/01/2019 at 13:18 |

the mk5 Jetta was the first German car that I liked. that 5 banger was just so good.
![]() 01/01/2019 at 13:24 |

Yeah, I was surprised. Coming from several cars that were much more powerful on paper, I was expecting it to be a turtle. It really isn’t. Not fast, but certainly not slow.

I really like how these look inside and out, especially in R-Design trim. The rear end not being IRS kinda puts me off a little but maybe I’m just being picky. I’m really keeping my eyes out for the GLI.
Congrats!
![]() 01/01/2019 at 13:40 |

Thanks! Yeah I’m not sure why they switched from IRS either, hopefully for my driving it won’t make too much of a difference but we shall see

Congrats! It scoots pretty well for a 1.4.
Ive had mine for about 5 months and still like it. No issues so far. I put some 18” wheels/tires on it, but otherwise it’s stock
![]() 01/01/2019 at 14:32 |

Nice! Love the wheels
![]() 01/01/2019 at 14:35 |

Thanks! You could!
![]() 01/01/2019 at 16:28 |

Perfect for daily driving in cities and out on the open roads, economical, etc...

That’s a gorgeous interior I like how angular it is in there!
![]() 01/01/2019 at 17:22 |
|
Yup. I also love just how much the center stack/infotainment system is angled towards the driver. And the fact that unlike some cars in the segment (*cough* Mazda) it didn’t try to play copycat to the current luxury car trend by sticking the screen up ton top of the dashboard.
![]() 01/01/2019 at 20:34 |
|
I agree this is much better than just racking something on and I like the angle to the driver

Noooo, saaaaaaabaruuuuuuuuuu. I feel like I am cursed to have something major go wrong on my STi any day now. Hopefully not on my 3 week, nearly 4000 mile trip I have coming up. I have driven it like 20k miles now since I bought it and only have done oil changes, brakes, tires, spark plugs, and air filter. I did replace a starter and some intercooler hosing but that was simple. I feel doomed to everything breaking at once lol. My AC is currently fubar but that is a problem for summertime.
I just worry my clutch or turbo will die or a multitude of other things that could go wrong. But no signs of anything wrong yet so I will keep up some wishful thinking!
