You guys remember the HP LaserJet 5MP I found locally? It has under 5,000 lifetime pages printed. Unbelievable.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Got an HP JetDirect 170X for it. It’s a print server so now I can network the printer and use it on any computer or laptop in the house.
HP LaserJet 5MP monochrome laser printer
Configuration page from an older machine + self test pages
Printing from Windows 7
Print test from 7 and 10
Nice to finally use it on modern machines. Amazing that a printer from 1995 still works on modern Windows.

Well, you should be set for a printer for the rest of your life.

That doesn’t seem so shocking to me. It’s an office printer, not a workgroup printer, so I’d imagine most sat on desks and rarely got used.
In any event, at least it’s a 5 and not a 5L. W e had many of the 5L/6L printers and they were terrible machines, always failing.

HP used to make the damn best printers in the world. The 42 00 series printers were workhorses. The last functioning one I saw was in use at a place of business last year. You can still get parts for them, as they were so good that people didn’t want to get rid of them.

I think we had a 5L or 6L at some point, but my parents must’ve tossed it out a while ago. We did have a 4L, that was bada

I have a 4000 series that I have refused to get rid of, its my personal office printer now at work. Replace the toner and a maint. kit once a year and it just does not stop.

I still rely on an HP LaserJet 5MP (upgraded to 98MB) for my day-to-day printing. Third set of rollers if I recall correctly. It’s had about 200,000 pages run through it. Connected to the network by the best of the best, the JetDirect 300x J3263G . I just feed it $35 toner and a fan filter every couple of years.
I might at some point try to track down a PSA 4250 just for giggles.

hot damn, nice!
I just went for the cheapest compatible jetdirect I could find with an adapter on ebay.... where do you get the maintenance parts from?

I didn’t realize that there was an external DirectJet. Neat!

Those were cheaply made compared to the old HP Laserjet II and III printers.

Basically, anywhere I can find them at this point. I don’t even remember where I got half of them from. And by the time I remember, they’ve gone out of business or no longer do LaserJet parts at all. :(

There were a lot of them, because a lot of the printers didn’t take internal ones.

;_; better start hoarding

They work with seemingly all PCL compliant parallel port printers

they were all external at first.
