I’m not affiliated with Toyota in any way; they just finally realized all my MR2 posts on Instagram might imply I like stick-shift, blue Toyotas
This targeted Instagram ad made my day.
That’s right, Toyota spent actual ad money on advertising a stick-shift.
Please excuse me while I go configure a manual Corolla Hatchback. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Ahem, “Intelligent” manual transmission? As in it shifts gears itself? Automatically?
Yes, I know it has rev-matching but “Intelligent” is quite a stretch

I just built a fully loaded one for less than $24k... UGH that is so tempting.

I like the new Corolla hatch, and would actually consider it. No, really. If I bought one new (or slightly used) my kids who are now 4 and 6 could end up with it as their first car. I do think about these things. It even comes in good colors!

I actually think it’d be awesome if companies advertised and developed a suite of manual transmission driving aids:
- auto rev matching
- anti kill/bog ECU tuning for starts
- hill start assist
- some kind of auto parking brake
Most cars have the first and third but I don’t think people realize it. I run into lots of people that say they like driving a stick BUT it got to be too much work. I know we all want the purity of driving without driver aids but if it means keeping more manuals I’m all for it.

I fully support the introduction of intelligent electronic crawler gearing that meshes smoothly with driver input.
Wheeeeeeeeeliiiiiiieeeeeeeeee fun launches from a dead stop

Rev matching for you? Hill start assist? Where’s the fun in that?
My car has no electronic aids. It’s a hoot. Granted, I’ve had in four months and it’s nearly killed me no less than three times, but the fear is part of the fun.

How I would option mine:
I seriously love this blue.
When I graduate this spring, a real car is high on the priority list. The Corolla hatch is up there on the rankings. If I could still buy a Mazda2 (blue or the incredible lime green) though, there would be no contest.

Well; they need to make all that technology; get regular consumers buying manuals again and then make a button to disable it!

Pull fuses until it's fun again.
