“Of course we asked, and Dearborn initially agreed to send one of its low-slung, 647-hp supercars. But two weeks before we were due to start testing, Ford suddenly pulled the car, for reasons the PR department requested we not make public . Send your emails to Ford Motor Company. Maybe they’ll tell you why one of the most exciting driver’s cars ever to carry the Blue Oval wasn’t at BDC.”

Here’s why (C&D Lightning Lap times):
Looks like Ferrari was scared, too.
The GT2 RS killed at Laguna Seca (BDC) as well:
“ There are gasps of disbelief when the clock stops: 1:28.30. It’s the fastest lap ever recorded at Laguna Seca by a street-legal production car on street-legal tires , 0.35 second quicker than the absolute record Randy set in the quasi-race Viper ACR for a Dodge PR stunt in 2016. And the ber-911 did it easily. “It’s b alanced, working all the way through the corner, right on the edge of the maximum grip,” Randy enthuses.”

Fo r a car named after a car that beat Ferrari, Ford is sure acting like they're Ferrari with it.

488 Pista wasn’t ready for primetime, same with the Aventador SV Jota. Italians, as always, are a little late to the party, it seems.
I’m more disappointed at Ford for stooping to Ferrari’s level, though . While I’ll never be surprised by Ferrari’s usual actions, Ford’s entire GT programme seems just a little off.
Also holy shit, Porsche. Truly, they have created Kaiser Ghidorah.

1.7 seconds off that GT2RS is pretty big, but come on, look at what’s surrounding the C7 ZR1.

Which is so weird, really. Hell, even their Le Mans class win didn’t look completely absolute.

Haha - the McLaren boys can’t be too happy about that, but:
“ His subsequent record-breaking 1:29.78 lap [in the 720s] is almost a second quicker than his best time in the 904-hp McLaren P1 , set during the 2015 Head 2 Head test against the Porsche 918. This surprises Randy, who thought the lap was a sloppy affair; he’d spent the whole time busily working behind the wheel to find the balance between understeer and oversteer. “I’m sweating! It’s a difficult car to go fast in,” he says. “But boy is it fast!”
Just crazy that these cars are crushing P1/918/LaF times just a few years later!

Their LeMans win was sandbagging and gaming the BOP system.

It’s a beast, for sure.
If you haven’t read the full BDC article, it’s worth your time with a surprise at the end. https://www.motortrend.com/news/2018-best-drivers-car/

They’re evolving, mate. They really are evolving. I don’t even want to know how fast the McSenna could even possibly lap.

Even so look at the price difference and the Porsche that is in the same price range. It is 7.5 seconds faster than anything in its price point. And hell it c ould be even lower as the starting price is $ 121K.

Seriously impressive. I wish I could get on board with Camaro styling...
Actually, what I really wish is that they’d make a new SS sedan with the engine, manual transmission, chassis & suspension of the current Camaro SS 1LE...

Even though I’m a Camaro fan, the nails are already in the coffin for me on the new gen. And I would totally buy that! But instead I’ll probably end up in a Gen 2 CTS-V or used SS.

ford OMEGALUL
But out of the top 5, it’s the 720S that has the most terrifying potential. We’re still looking at a lap from the “base” 720S. We’ve yet to see a hotter, better LT version. We’ve yet to see the Senna run laps .

Porsche 3/10ths ahead of the Viper. Just 3/10ths! And yeah, that can be seen as a long time, but no, that’s no time at all.
At VIR, though, the GT2RS is almost 3s faster than the Viper ACR.
[ And because the ZR1 was unable to beat the Viper in both VIR and Laguna Seca, as stipulated, the US Supercar Lap C hampion is still the ACR.]

Was going to say the same thing. Damn impressive for a V10 NA car that first came out in 2012. It’s a beast.

The a couple thing that is interesting is as you go down the Lighting list.
The Vette is 7.5 sec faster than anything in its class and at least $ 100k cheaper than the leader (which only gets you 1.7 sec). Could argue with its $ 121K stating price it could be in LL3. Also in the top 6 the only FR layout.
And the Type R never needed AWD. As evident it by beating the STI by a full second and tying the RS5.
Lastly how slow the Stinger was. I would have expected a better lap time

Yeah, the ZR1 is an incredible performance bargain.

ACR-only Kumho Ecsta tires.

I’m surprised by how well the Mustang PP2 did. I thought it would come up short in comparison to last year's SS 1LE time

It’s on Pilot Sport Cup 2s... I nteresting comment on that - PP2 is faster, but 1LE is the better drive, apparently.

That was my understanding as well. Honestly, the best bet would be to buy a bare bones 2018 mustang at a discount and then modify it yourself. That way you can focus more on the chassis and fix things like the overheating diff, while still coming in well under 40k.
That said, I wish visibility was better in the Camaro, because that car likely has the better chassis overall
