I know I do. It has a 2.0l V6. Repeat: TWO-POINT-OH-
LITER
VEE-SIX. And it makes 197 horsepower. FWD be damned, these are rad cars. 1994 models will be legal in 2019; anyone else considering one?
![]() 09/14/2018 at 19:52 |

The top trim level with the V6 only came with blue front seats. And that rules.

Still not sure what these have that the Eclipse doesn't

Bright interior colors need to be a thing again. I can prove it:

I like driving it in gran turismo! Back when I preferred front wheel drive cars.

Not really, my choice for importable FWD coupe would be the Fiat.
The I5 isn’t available yet, soon though.

2.0l high-revving V6, and it looks totally different.
If I were building a racecar I’d probably go Eclipse too, but the FTO just seems so cool. If I were going on a nice roadtrip along twisty roads, I think it’d be perfect.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 20:03 |

Ah okay, that is definitely cool. 4-spoke wheels with 4 lugs is the correct setup.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 20:05 |

Mini- 3000gt looks? It’s a good looking car. Although there is probably an element of forbidden fruit in there too.

I remember these from the first chase scene in the Hong Kong movie Thunderbolt.

Well I didn’t before, but that looks real nice.

Ah, this brings me back to the good ‘ole days of Gran Turismo 2, it was my go to car a lot of the time (early on anyway)
.

Small 6 cylinders sound great. The Mazda 1.8 V6 for example.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 20:46 |
|
More cylinders, more revs, and more sound since it’s not massively overpowered for street use. I really like cars that sound like they’re going 2x as fast as they are.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 20:54 |

It sounds awesome on paper. If only it weren't so ugly.

Not an Alfa Romeo?
Like a Alfa Romeo Brera 3.2 V6 JTS
or a
GTV 3.2 V6 Lusso.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 21:05 |
|
I guess I meant currently or nearly importable. That said I’d take the Fiat over the GTV any day . As much as I love the Brera it isn’t legal here till 2030.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 21:08 |

Ah, more FTOs for me then. The looks are why I want one; I think it looks great :P
![]() 09/14/2018 at 21:14 |

An AWD 6MT V6 2-door wagon. And it’s an Alfa Romeo, too.
I’m now sorely disappointed that the Brera won’t be importable for another 12 years :(

Oops, meant to put 1994 into Autotrader not 2004.

Ye’, it was my error, I put 2004 into Autotrader, not 1994.

I guess we’ll just have to make the FTO a liftback with AWD then...
Challenge accepted :D
![]() 09/14/2018 at 21:46 |

Hmmmmm. A liftback with AWD, how about a Quattro?
How about a an Audi S2 2.2 Quattro.

It looks like a 3000GT fucked a shoe but also they were siblings.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 21:48 |

IMO it’s a little too small to look good. It looks a bit... chunky. Sort of like a second gen Scion TC with a curvier front and back.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 21:50 |

Did some one say Grand Turismo.
A buddy of mine back the said the FTO was his dream car and he was going to get one for his first car (we were 10-11) I didn’t have the heart to tell him that they weren’t sold in the US.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 22:05 |

Great sounding motors. I wonder if one could be squeezed into a Miata.
![]() 09/14/2018 at 22:14 |

You sure you want to deal with engine out timing belt changes on an engine that nobody in america is familiar with as opposed to the less reliable but more common (in the US) Lampredi four ?
![]() 09/14/2018 at 22:18 |

My Maxima too had a 2.0 V6, and literally none of the advantages you just stated. Except maybe lack of power.

Maintenance doesn’t matter on a pipe dream.
Did you ever go through with that Kappa awhile back, btw?
![]() 09/15/2018 at 01:06 |

The Mivec versions were competitors with the Integra Type R. I will have to see prices, they weren’t cheap when new.
![]() 09/15/2018 at 06:43 |

If I had there’d have been an update by now. Sure, it ran and drove fine but there was a lot that needed adressing to get it through inspection, namely the tires, brake lines and one strut. But what I never showed was that the rear axle was in a fairly ugly state, too much rust for me to be comfortable with. But what really broke the deal was the fact that I couldn’t find a place to store it and work on it. I will be keeping an eye out for a reasonably priced 2.4 or Turbo to appear, though.

are there any left in Japan?
there were lots imported here years ago, use to see a few
but now i haven’t seen any in ages

the shoe and the 3000gt were siblings or the 3000gt and fto would be siblings after the 3000gt and shoe gave birth to it?
![]() 09/15/2018 at 08:43 |
|
The shoe and the 3000GT were siblings and they had an inbred child and it was the FTO.

As the resident die hard Mitsubishi guy I would absolutely love to.
Except of course it would get a 4g63 swap because I’m unreasonable
![]() 09/15/2018 at 12:07 |

I definitely need one of these. Perfect balance of good sound with usable power. Specifically, less than 200hp means one actually gets to hear the engine at full tilt, even in daily driving conditions. Excellent...
![]() 09/15/2018 at 12:19 |
|
I take it you mean t his shoe?
I see more of this shoe:
Honestly though, the FTO still does something for me, despite either creative shoe-like image.
Maybe I’m just the next Daniel Ricciardo...

They sold those with a 2.0l?? I always assumed it was the 3.0 VQ for the first few generations.
![]() 09/15/2018 at 12:40 |

Only on european market 4th and 5th gens , which were identical with the A32/33 Cefiro.
![]() 09/15/2018 at 13:56 |
|
I find the overall design lacking cohesion , as if different people styled the front, greenhouse, and rear.
![]() 09/15/2018 at 15:43 |
|
It might look a little better with a fastback profile rather than the notchback that it is, but most smaller coupes from that era were fastbacks too. I like the variety, but that’s just my opinion.
I see where you’re coming from with the styling issues though, it is a little unconventional.
I almost see some Mazda RX-8 in this angle too. Needs a solid drop in ride height and I think it’ll look better.

I kinda figured that was the case. Oh well, good luck on your search.

I saw one of these yesterday. It was riced.
![]() 09/16/2018 at 11:30 |
|
Unfortunate... How riced are we talking here? Like “rims and a wing” riced, or a fully slammed, sticker’d up, beehive-sounding-exhaust riced?
![]() 09/16/2018 at 21:57 |

It was sitting in a front yard next to a 4 door Skyline. It may not even run. I only saw the bum but it had one of those monstrous fibreglass wings you only see on the worst, most tasteless of cars. I think it had a kit too.
