Picked up a 1980 Pontiac Sunbird Coupe. 231 Buick V6 with a 3-speed auto. The car was driven in summers only from 1980 until 1988 when the owner parked it in the garage at their cottage and literally forgot about it. He pulled it out this spring, put a new gas tank and sending unit in it and it fired it up.
The plan is to flush all the fluids, so all the front end work, new tires, brakes & shocks then just drive it and enjoy it.

So that’s two Oppos with Sunbirds and one with a Sunchaser. Neat.

Nothing reminds me more of my youth than fake wood and vinyl seats.

That is beautiful.

H0 w do you forget you own a car for 30 years? Especially one that is only 8 years old and therefore theoretically still has decent resale value?

What it lacks in dynamics it makes up for in presence. Not the menacing muscle car type, but the so of it’s time it’s timeless.
That badge.

From what I understand they moved a bunch of furniture and whatnot into their cottage garage and it just got buried over time. I don’t think it would have had significant value at 8 years old, they were super disposable cars. That’s why I was so astonished to actually find one.

*Nod*
I love the “Radial Tuned Suspension”. It is as wonderfully meaningless as the “Ride Engineered” dash plaque on my ‘87 Mercury Colony Park.

I have a recurring dream where I’ve forgotten several cars I’ve purchased (don’t remember the models, but I think they were all non-exotic ‘80s vintage things ). It’s sort of like the car ownership equivalent of the school dream:
I do wonder if responsible students get those though...

Quite the time capsule. That would be a great radwood car with a mullet.

I have this dream too!!! For some reason it seems like the car is often a n early 6 0s Nova. I have never owned a Nova.

I have these dreams too, sometimes trucks from the 80's, usually a 1st gen mustang. ( the same one over and over again, which doesnt help the sensation ) different locations.

You own a Sun Dog! Didn’t that car get designed for a Wankel?
“ The 1975 Monza 2+2 was designed to accommodate the GM- Wankel rotary ... The Pontiac Sunbird variant was introduced the following model year, ...”

Wow, you know you own a Malaise era GM car if you literally forget you own it! :P

It strangely gives off that Muscle Car vibe, only smaller.

Nice score. Looks like a great little driver.

That interior is fantastic. It’s like driving inside an old Pioneer stereo.
