Been thinking about lifting the van again lately. Then I came across this:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
112" Wheelbase Dakota. The van is conveniently 112.3" wheelbase. This has got me thinking about putting the van body on a Dakota frame!

dumb as it is, that idea ought to work out nice and smooth..... you might have issues at first with steering box location, and firewall location, but once you sawzall past those, and make some decent body tabs for the mounts, it ought be pretty straightforward.......

A bad idea would be buying a convertible one.

One man’s stupid is another man’s awesome

Alternatively, spring packers. Just as silly. No less dangerous or frustrating.

Okay, but what if he decides he wants more lift in future? Easier with Dakota frame.

One is only in trouble when “Sawzall” ceases to be the correct answer.

DO IT!

This seems like a really, really bad idea and you should totally do it as long as you keep us updated.

Everything I’ve ever really lifted has been on either a Land Rover or Land Cruiser frame. Or spring packers...
Frankly, if the firewall lines up with the wheels ...then LV is golden. Otherwise, spring packers...

Always a star for posting pictures of the future POTUS.

If I do it there will be a build write up for sure!

Eh, I would obviously go through everything before doing it, so it’s no big deal.

I’ve thought about making strut spacers for the front. Then I can just use lift blocks in the rear. I should be able to go 3" without much issue.

Would it matter?
The body would be coming off regardless.....

i know, i think after you touch them, they are in better condition than when they left the factory.

That is a terrible, terrible, terrible idea.
You should definitely do that.

Yo u’ll have to work out the steering mechanism from scratch . But these 1988-1995 Dodge Dakotas are decent trucks. Both the V6 and V8 have roller rockers and are either TBI or port injected.

you are never in trouble, you just get out the NEXT set of cutters......

The real question is: How to talk the wife into it?
![]() 09/11/2018 at 12:12 |

Given the era, it’s entirely possible.

If I had the answer to that, there’d be a LOT more junk in my driveway!

Lol.
I’ll probably just end up making strut spacers to lift the nose and using lift blocks to lift the rear. Should be able to get 3" without much hassle that way.

That's probably for the best :)

Would be far cooler to have a 6" lift, 4wd, and a modded 318 though........

Stupid and awesome are not mutually exclusive

This is quite true.

This is also true
