After a pretty easy 10 hour drive, I have made it to Utah! The 15 was pretty scenic through parts of Nevada and especially Arizona. Soon after entering Utah, I exited the freeway around a town called Meadow, and headed North from there. A nice 2 L ane back road with a 65mph speed limit. And at the end of it, Google maps took me down a shortcut that consisted of 20 miles of dirt, sand, and gravel. So I did some proper Subaruing! I’ll try and post a video soon.

This car is certainly going to need a wash. But I’m very glad that I brought this car and not my Miata. If I had any fillings, they would have been removed from the rattling at half the speed in the Miata. But in the STi I could easily cruise at 60mph on the straight parts and a bit slower around turns just because of sight lines. Haha but the dust cloud behind me, I’m just glad I didn’t have to try and drive behind that. I didn’t see anyone the whole way so it was a fun drive.

I didn’t stop anywhere unfortunately. I had to go into work and sort stuff out so it was pretty much a straight drive. That’s how i was able to make it under 10 hours, which was a solid half hour ahead of what gmaps said and included 2 fuel stops.

I was on routes 100, 50, 6, 36, and then a bunch of dirt roads.

Any car if you kept your momentum could have gone though it. I’ve done some pretty hairy stuff in the Juke.

It would have been a ground clearance issue as well as a jarring coilover issue. Like I wouldn't have gotten stuck but it would have been far more harrowing than it needed to be. With the Subaru, it might as well have been pavement - car didn't care one way or the other. Now granted I'd have gotten the Miata tail happy around turns whereas this car says no no no here is grip lol.

I love Utah. Earlier this summer, the wife and I went to visit her family 45 minutes outside of Salt Lake. We rented a Kia Sportage. We went down some trails she remembered from years ago, and we went until the only other vehicles on the trail were Jeeps and trucks.

Somehow, people have simultaneously decided that they need an offroad vehicle for daily driving, and that they can’t actually take that vehicle offroad. We found out exactly how far that Sportage could go, then drove a few meters farther in before turning around.

. Then we gave it a run on the salt flats before flying home.

I am legit jealous that you had an easy drive.

Mine was anything but.

I can confirm this.

And it seems like the church (cough), I mean  government’s ok with 4.0 ABV at the grocery store and pollution. Damn hippies.

It really makes a difference in fatigue and enjoyment for a long drive. The only traffic I hit was a small patch for the crazy construction on the 15 going through Vegas, it's like they are rebuilding the entire freeway in some massive project. But even that was just a short delay. After that, speed limits were 75 or 80 the whole way so cruise control set to about 85 and just sit back and enjoy the AC, some tunes, and the wonderful sights. Having discovered the wonder of the "Auto" setting on my HVAC and the ceramic tints keeping the sun out, it was great.

Oh, believe me, I know... I’ve done Ohio->Michigan->California->Michigan->Ohio. Once I got out onto cruising highways, it was so incredibly relaxing. Didn’t hurt that I was driving a W-body Regal GSE either. Worst part was, you guessed it, Vegas. (Was heading to Anaheim, so yeah, Vegas.) Even Colorado wasn’t too bad, aside from the heart attack trying to find decent fucking gasoline.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with everyone out west that they think 91 octane is ‘premium’ or even acceptable ?! 93 or GTFO.

Lol I haven't had 93 in my car since I filled up in Arkansas last year! Since in Texas premium was 90 at altitude and everywhere West of there was 91. Something about saving the environment out here meaning there is no 93. My Miata doesn't really care since it actually needs 91 anyways. But I'd imagine the STi would do better on 93.
