I’m going Skitarii, and until the new Ork Speed Freeks box set comes out, a cult that literally worships machines is the most Oppo way to go.

At my local GW store, nobody plays 40k any more, everybody just plays Kill Team, since all you need is a single box of dudes and you got an army.

So basically what I’m saying is DO IT. Harlequins in particular are really competitive in Kill Team.

I don’t even know what kill team is. Haven’t played 40k in probably 7 years, but I’ve kinda stayed up with the meta game, and continued with books.

Currently looking at Codex's on Amazon...

Kill Team is the new skirmish-level ruleset, so instead of doing a whole army and moving/attacking with units, you do each individual model in a single squad. So instead of buying several boxes of models to get an army, you just need to get a single box of troops and you’re basically set. I got a single box of Skitarii and I’m using 9 models out of the 10 to build a 100 point list. It’s taken over the store since for the same price as a regular sized 40k army you can have several Kill Team armies, and the whole “elite unit of individual soldiers” thing really opens things up for going-all out on the modelling/painting/nerdy fluff part. Like, the Kill Team rulebook has tables for coming up with your army’s backstory that has no impact on actual play but serves as great inspiration for the hobby side of things (my Skitarii are a squad of fanatics who volunteered for the dangerous job of attacking anything they come across in order to collect data about how their weapons and equipment perform against the enemies of the Omnissiah, and they are doing so because they were promised to be rewarded with cybernetic parts to replace their frail, flawed human flesh. This backstory came 100% from rolling on the background tables.)

It uses the same basic rules as 8th edition 40k, with more stuff added in like rules for doing narrative campaigns with leveling/progression for your units and stuff like that. Instead of getting a proper codex/main rulebook I’d suggest just getting the Kill Team rules and going from there. The rules for the units/weapons/equipment are the same as they are in proper 40k, so Kill Team is also a great way of getting a feel for all the armies before investing tons of money into them.

They’re also coming out with a Rogue Trader expansion for Kill Team in a few months that along with adding a fucking rogue trader and their retinue to the game also serves as a bridge set of rules to allow cross-play between Kill Team and Necromunda armies (they brought Necromunda back, BTW. It’s great. And t hey’re bring ing back Gorkamorka under the name Speed Freeks as a way to launch the updated Ork vehicle models. And they’re bringing Epic back starting with an Adeptus Titanicus boxed game. And Blood Bowl has been back for a while. Basically they’re fucking nailing it. ), so you’ll finally be able to play a game of Necromunda where the gang problem in the Hive World is so bad they send in the Space Marines.

I haven’t really played since 6th edition came out.  This kill team thing sounds awesome!  And my college buddy I played with is coming to visit this weekend, and we intend to get out my 40k stuff.  Might have to try out this Kill Team version to maybe have some shorter games.

Honestly, Ad Mech is the best thing to happen to kitbashing and conversions in donkeys years (followed shortly by GS Cults and new Necromunda).

Kill Team may just drag me out of only modelling into playing something actually. Fits perfectly with the little technobarbarian/mutant warbands I tend to make :)

Oh don’t. I really need to get back to mine (not that a squad of storm guardians and a Farseer counts as an army). This is it really:

Warhammer PSA: Warhammer 40,000 : Space Marine (PC game) is free from Humble until 10AM Pacific on the 1st: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/warhammer-40000-space-marine

Bit of a different experience than the tabletop (it’s a third-person shooter), but free is free.
