I have a crap ton of work to do, for both school and work itself. And I have exactly 0% drive to do it.

I see it just a mountian of shit thats piled up almost out of no-where. Not to mention my own crap with getting the new bikes home and hidden from the parents.

Hiding them from your parents? But why?

I’ll admit, I didn’t tell my mom about my first motorcycle. She found out about it when she came to visit. It worked out, though. She had flown in and was looking to rent a car. I saved her some cash by lending her mine while I just rode my motorcycle. She was more than a little conflicted.

because “I should be focusing on school and not dicking aorund with motorcycles” and “not wasting my money”

Ignoring the fact that my DAY JOB is a motorcycle sales pers on.

Also I still live with them soooo might be a bit tough.

loool.

I’m actually planning to throw another set of tires on it and a new battery. then see if I dont want to ride it for a bit before sell.

Well, they’re right on both counts. Focus on school and get it done while you can. It’s too easy for life to get in the way and derail your plans.

I’m not saying they are wrong. (maybe ont he wasting money part as these are both flip bikes)

but when I literally hear it EVERY day and get yelled at constantly for it, it wear thin.

and then they wonder why i dont speak to them and go stright to the basement to do my homework when i get home.

Sorry, venting.

It’s ok. I’ve been a son who didn’t conform to his families wishes, an assistant professor who watched students make similar mistakes, and a parent who is trying to get his kids to recognize what’s important and what is not.

Since you’re venting here, I’ll pass along some third-party advice. Treat school as a full-time job. Your job is to get your education and do it with the highest GPA you can achieve. Don’t believe the BS that grades don’t matter. They absolutely do when you are searching for that first job out of college. It’s one of the things that will differentiate you from all the other recent graduates with the same degree. You are setting the stage for your future. Don’t screw it up by getting too distracted and letting your grades suffer. If all you want to do in life is be a motorcycle salesman or flipper , then quit wasting money on school and go be a salesman and flip bikes.

You may have heard this already , but it bears repeating - for every hour you are in class, you should be spending 2-3 hours outside of class either reading the materials, studying, or working on class projects. This is why a 12-hour class schedule is considered full time.

Counter point. Employers dont see your grades. They just see you have a piece of paper that says your degree

I see from another post that you still live at home and your parents dont like your bikes. Not to be a dick but you kinda made your own bed there. If they allow you to live there for free or cheap im assuming you have to follow their rules. Or move to your own place.

I wasnt allowed to own a street bike while living at my parents (had dirt bikes) and the month after i moved out to my house i bought a bike.

Counter-counter-point: In the engineering world, grades and/or transcripts are often requested of new graduates. This isn’t as much of an issue if they’ve already passed their EIT exam or are a P.E .

here is the thing. with what I’m planning to do, they dont really care about the grades

long term plan is to be a pilot. The canadian military has a program where they will train you (free of charge) if you have ANY degree. they dont care which. A family friend of ours had his kid get in with a physcology degree.

(also, worth noting, this is an online school, no in-class per say)

so they quite literally dont give a shit as long as you are level headed. I already passed their entrance exams for mental health and the physcal once, so I’m not worried about that.

Maybe I just have a touch to much on the plate right now and I’m physicing myself up over it too. Work is being a bit of a pain in the ass and the stuff I put through isnt getting done. Plus my parents CONSTANTLY telling me this crap (I am not exagreating here, I here it once when I leave for work, once when I get home, and once when I go to bed....the only 3 times I see them in the day) its just starting to get to me.

I need a vacation thats what  I need I think.

ehh. its not that they dont like the bikes.

they dont like how much time I spend on them. (I work in the industry, so it seems everything I do or say involves bikes), which, yes, looks bad.

I do pay rent. about the same as regualar prices here. jsut with more freedom. and more storage.

I have thought about just getting a cheap storage unit for a little bit. but then that woiuld cut into any profit I had on the bikes

Makes sense. Yea i still keep two vehicles in my parents barn as i have three at my house currently.

Maybe find a friend who will store them so your parents dont have to see them?

I would look at one or two courses of action - either move out so you don’t have to listen to it, or double down on school and finish early.

I’m not telling you anything I wasn’t willing to do myself. After my second year of school, I packed my bags and moved to another state. I took a year off so I could establish residency and declare independence so that I could get in-state tuition and get my mom off my financial aid package. As far as I know, they don’t do that any more in the U.S., so they will still consider your parent’s financials until you are 24 yrs old. It may be different in Canada.

The third option is to stick it out. Just know that you’re going to hear about it until something changes. Nobody needs that kind of stress in their life.

I have been feeling the same way. Almost no drive to do anything because I just don’t care. Almost none of it is bringing me joy. Hell I don’t even want to edit my photos from Monterey Car week....

One thing to keep in mind is that if the program has many more applicants than available openings, you will have to distinguish yourself from the other candidates. In the U.S., programs like that can get so competitive, any disciplinary issues, even a parking ticket, can be the difference between success and failure.

When I was a resident advisor, I caught a guy rappelling off the dormitory at 2:00 in the morning. He was in the ROTC and was a candidate for some special officer program when he graduated. He and his buddies begged me not to submit an official  disciplinary action. I let them sweat it out for a couple of days, then let the ROTC guys handle it themselves.

I asked the school and for some insane reason they wont let me accelerate more. I pay per course, so its not like they are making less money off of me.

and the courses are acceleted to begin with. so eh.

One way to get around this is co-enrollment. Find out what classes will transfer and take them either at another local college or online. Call the admissions office and ask them with which colleges they have articulation agreements. They should provide you a list of courses they are willing to accept.
