Just wanted to show off my new Salmon rig I spoiled my self with last week.
Went out saturday to scout and it was a total bust. Fuckers are still holding at about 150 feet down. We had some great weather last week and one was caught down at the pier. How ever it’s currently 90 degrees still and the surface temps of the lake are near 75. They wont be moving for another week most likely. I casted it for about an hour just to dial it in and get a feel for it. Let me tell you this is the darkest setup I’ve ever used let alone owned. Smooth casts and the rod feels great! I’m dying to see it in action. I didnt think I’d like the carbon Fiber handle but honestly they feel great. Best part is for some reason if you get em wet. They get grippier.
Specs:
Rod: KastKing Krome 9'6 medium heavy fast action
Reel: Pflueger Supreme XT 40.
Line:20Lb powerpro
Weight: 1lb 0.7z

So let’s teach you something about salmon while confusing you by putting salt and freshwater fish together in the same aquarium.

Looks like a nice setup. I have been thinking about a new reel and have been looking at the Daiwa BG series. What made you choose the Plfue ger? I currently have a couple Shimano baitrunners I use for catfish, but want something easier to cast.
How what kind of salmon and how big do they get?

Thanks!!
I went with the Pflueger for sever reasons. It hit all the right boxes. Light weight, good size, braid ready spool, amazing drag system and price. I fit about 220yards of 20 lb powerpro spectra on it. Oh also retrieve speed. I wanted a something around a 6.1:1 or higher; its 6.2:1. Its made of all magnesium, aluminum and carbon fiber. And very well made. Also I can take it salt Water fishing since the drag is sealed. Pflueger is always a good choice, the BG is a great reel too! It’s the kastking that’s the reel wild card here. It feels great to cast but I’m dying to see how it performs with a salmon!
We catch Chinooks and cohos. The Kings will average about 30lbs plus or minus. The cohos average about 20.

Ever check out Penfields “bluffs” on Irondequoit creek ? Heres the location on a map

Rea lly nice area over there you can follow Irondequoit creek for miles without trespassing at all. Highly recommend it. Used to live near it for a bit lots of rapids that bottleneck everything up. My last house was right near the creek closer to the bay right on the boarder of Ellison park. No plans of moving back but I did have some thoroughly good times on the creek and in those general areas.

No I have not! I live really close to that area too. I hear you can grab skme.good browns and steel head up in there later in the fall tho! I struggle creek fishing to be honest. I grew up fishing fast water walley and smallies down on the susquehanna river. Then I just got into hitting up the canal and the piers on the lake. I’m thinking after salmon if the weather isnt to bad I’ll check out that stretch! Saved the pin, thanks!

Yes they both run really thick in that stretch. Go walk it on a boring day and take a swim I bet you’ll like it. Nice paths go in both directions really can’t go wrong a real great place to take a date ir friend on a walk. I’ve reached in and picked up monster fish without a rod so sure you could redeem your creek Fisher status over there too.
