“Worth” “cost”

I mean for that kind of money,
unless having a removable top is REALLY IMPORTANT to you or you ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE THE FANCIEST OF BADGES,
why wouldn’t you just get an NSX? Since for that money you can get one with carbon-ceramic brakes and have 7 grand left over to throw carbon fiber and alcantara wherever you want to.

I enjoy the,”Doug is the type of guy” comments as much as the videos usually .

I’ll be the first to defend the NSX, but that i8 is such a shockingly good looking car. Granted, the NSX is probably a league above the i8, I’d compare the i8 to a 911.

Yeah this one he’s obviously in the tank for BMW

They are a proprietary take on pancakes offered complementary when you ride 3 times in a Johnny Cab.

Basically a pancake but made using cornmeal. If you’ve had cornbread, think that but squashed into flat form.

You know, I didn’t watch this video. I don’t care what his rationale is, there is no way an i8 is worth $175k. CP all day, every day.

I hate to agree with you because I love the i8, but yeah, I agree with you.
For that money you can have a new NSX or 570S, or a used 458, Gallardo, or Murcielago . And if having a convertible is really that important (for me, it would be) there’s the R8 Spyder. Why would I choose a 3-cylinder hybrid over a 540hp V10?

BMW needs to fix the i8 by putting in a real engine and thick tires.

If p olar b ears didn’t want to go extinct , they should have developed competitively viable goods and services to sell on the free market.

NSX is likely faster.... but is just electric added to a RWD ‘supercar’.
BMW i8 is a ground-up PHEV in a carbon fiber monocoque
I think it is a bit too expensive, especially for it’s performance figures, I would like to see just a slight bit more of a performance edge for 6-figures... or a much better and approachable price point for the useable and fun performance level of the i8... and maybe finding a little more practical storage space in the car.
But the roadster is maybe even more compelling than the coupe, other than losing some of the vertical space behind the front seats.
I still really want one, even though it will likely tank in terms of resale, as the coupes have somewhat already... and BMW’s maintenance cost, reliability question, and the fact that they have all but hermetically sealed the service areas of the car.
If someone builds something even better... but i8 is gorgeous, and innovative.
NSX is good looking, reportedly great performing, and complex. But is it innovative?

Pick them up used or after they have sat on the dealer lots for a year for about 100k, then it’s a good deal. You can pick up used coupes all day for 70-80k, which I think is a good price.
