Before going in to a series of posts about my trip, I want to take a minute to talk about a scooter rally I went on the day after I got back. I kept hearing that this annual small displacement ride up in seattle was one of the biggest gatherings on the west coast, but I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to make it work with my cross country trip planned to end the day before.
Well I did make it back on time, and still apparently not tired of sitting on a motorbike, I decided to tag along with a few friends that were trucking their scooters up to Seattle.
The ride, called ferry 2 ferry due to the two water crossings by ferry in the beginning and end of the ride, took us all around the Seattle downtown area and a bit around in the woods across across the sound.
I think they had around 400 total small displacement bikes show up for the ride. O ut on the road I could barely see the leaders or the tail end of the group.
On the ferry we basically took up a whole section just by ourselves
I had a blast, it was such a stark contrast to to trip I’d just come back from. Went from riding one of H ondas biggest motorbikes in the middle of nowhere the previous day, to riding one of their smallest in close quarters to hundreds of others the next day.

That’s a lot of angry bees.

Soo many angry bees, I’m pretty sure I might have hearing damage if I hadn’t brought earplugs. It’s amazing how loud a 3cu inch motor can get with very little baffling in the exhaust.

While I was staying with my friend in Portland last month, her dad re-bought his old Aprilla scooter that he had sold a couple years prior. He was *very* excited.

So what you’re saying is that I should finish my cafe racer Chuckus build and hit up the PNW next year!

There are all kinds of great smallbore rides out here. I took the vespa out to one just for old two stokes earlier this year also

My buddy has three aprilias right now. Two SR50s and an RS50. They are so freaking fast for their displacement. He also... somehow... has the least breakdowns of all of us.

Ihope I have time next year to work on my moms scooter. My dad rebuilt it and it started but would flood when it got warm. I'm willing to bet after doing my quadrajet that it was a faulty float needle.

Shhhhh I’m trying to keep by bike count at 3 but I have a hankering to get a vintage bike between 125 and 200cc. lol

It was chaos, all the ferry employees had out their phones and were taking photos. I can only imagine what the people in some of the small towns we rolled through thought seeing a few hundred tiny bikes randomly taking up the whole street.

If you’re anywhere near a city, they are the single best city transportation device I’ve ever used. Can have fun in traffic, you find all the backroads, parking on most sidewalks

Ahhh... So young, so innocent..
I remember when I told myself I had to keep the bike count at three.

I’d just use my full size bike if it would run.

Scooters are more fun below 50 :p
Like for instance, me and a buddy drag race each other between lights every time we are at the front of the line... and we don’t even break any laws!

Ok ok, that does sound fun

Must’ve caused quite a Ruckus with all those scooters.
