Everything I’ve ever done is predicated on getting on well with people. I come from a family of salesmen, and winning people over was drilled into me from a young age. Sometimes I pick a random person and think “we’re going to be friends now.” And we will. But, shit, I do not like people . On a fundamental level, I like me, and that’s basically it. But I’ll try and like people. I don’t, but they don’t know that. I channel that in healthy ways, like taking it out on awful people, but deep down, I just like telling people to go fuck themselves and I’d be okay with whom ever that ends up being, but I get to feel morally superior when I do it to assholes. Sometimes I just want to be a really entitled, elite fuck, but it only feels okay when I do it to other assholes.

I have friends, but I rarely hang out with them. At the ripe old age of 34, I have almost no social life and spend my time outside of work with my wife a my daughter. And I'm completely okay with this.

But they always talk to me. They ask questions...so many questions. And sometimes they email them but if I don’t answer in five seconds they come to ask me again in person.

Well, I’m not a psychologist, just voicing my mind out here....

I think you might be voicing out a childhood trauma by telling people they’re assholes, you know, in a way you’re rejecting your impulse to like them by doing so. It’s irrelevant if they’re assholes or not, you just want to feel liberated from that by rejecting the trauma of being a salesman.

When I was a child, my parents were really, really obsessed about me loosing weight, they’d pressure me, shout at me, and punish me for not going to the gym. Now that I’m older, anytime I go to the gym or try to exercise I feel weird doing it, and I ultimately stop. What little exercise I do I try to hide it from my family at all times. When they tell me I look slimmer it actually acts as a deterrent from exercising rather than positive reinforcement.

Ultimately, the only way to fix it is to stop caring about it. Since it’s so central to my health, I should probably start doing so.... start stopping caring? Yes.

I used to respond to emails in person or by phone when I could tell some fucker was trying to create a paper trail. Maybe they’re doing that to you.

That might be why I enjoy telling people they’re assholes, but I’m pretty sure I like telling assholes they’re assholes because I like feeling morally superior and I have a self-destructive streak.

Nah, these kids are just impatient. We have guidance sheets for everything that they hate using (they’d rather just ask) , so I usually try to also send them an existing example so they can see the big picture. That takes longer to find than it takes them to walk over and ask if I saw the email. All of which takes way longer than just using the guidance sheets, but I’m not allowed to  say that.

I can’t abide people. I can just about tolerate me, that’s only because I can’t do anything about it.

I’m always telling my bosses to go f*** themselves.

When people at work say I’m a friend or ‘we’re friends’, I reply, ‘no we’re not’. ‘We work in the same place, we don’t do anything such as meet up for a pint from time to time or anything out of work’.

If they get up in my face about it or annoy me, ‘I reply, look, at work I get paid to be around you, that’s it’.
