If the US wanted a true silver bullet, it'd be in the shape of the TPP.

True, but that’d really fuck over US manufacturing. Although you could argue it’s inevitable anyways though.

I think the US should embrace the loss of their primary and secondary sources of employment to automation and focus on making conditions better for the tertiary and quarterly sources . Had the TPP been enacted, you guys would’ve gained a buffer of countries pressuring C hina during the transition to an almost automated 1st and 2nd sector.

It would’ve also given us, the poorer countries, resources and support to facilitate a shift towards a similar economic policy and an overall improvement in quality of life... at an insignificant cost to the US economy.

However, for those changes to happen us, the poorer countries, need to have a disciplined economic policy that should focus on employees and not employers and an important reduction in corruption by way of US pressure . For the effects to be insignificant to the US economy the US would also need to have a disciplined tax policy... in a few words, they’d need to get their shit together with  federal taxes on companies and getting rid of crazy shit like the alternative tax rate for the rich.

In a sense, NAFTA was about that, but in that case none of the countries had the discipline to carry it out without some consequences to their economies and way of life..

I’m quite certain that you have a lot more thought and understanding regarding these economic factors than I do, but I laughed out loud at the need for ‘pressure from the US to reduce corruption...’ I mean, of course you’re right; but I fully expect to be dead before that ever moves in a positive direction, here.

Boy, if you think you have corruption issues, you’ve seen nothing. We see trials like manafort’s and Cohen’s every couple of years. That congressman from California using 250,000 USD of campaign money for personal expenses? we see it here virtually every election. Right now we’re trialing a Governor that took three billion dollars from state coffers, part of which was attained by giving water to children with Leukemia instead of Chemotherapy.

Yes, something like 5 governors have been  charged with some form of money laundering and missuse of resources in the last 10 years.

... And I’m officially horrified. The world is hell, nearly everywhere (but I didn’t realize some of what lies on the worst end of the spectrum).
