His family has gathered in Arizona, and reports are that his death is imminent. I never shared his politics all that much, but I have always greatly respected him (except maybe for that whole Sarah Palin thing) , and he will pass with his honor very much intact. Godspeed, Mr. McCain.

I respect McCain, but his record is a mixed bag. Lets not forget he’s the one who brought us Sarah Palin and the inevitable dumbing down that came with her. Or the fact he voted lockstep with the GOP for years. Even under Trump, he voted with him more than against.

I align myself more with democratic values than republicans. That being said, I always like McCain. He seemed like a guy that actually gave a damn. If he didn’t agree with something, he let it be known. For all this man has done, to be dealt such a shitty hand as cancer just sucks.
I’ll still never forgive Trump for making fun of him. He’s a damn POW and you make fun of him? Why don’t we talk about your time in the armed services, private bone spur?

I wish him well. He is a exemplary man and a true War Hero , b ut I respected him a lot more a few years back. Y es, he has pushed back a lot but for the most part he has only been “deeply concerned” about all the shit this administration has done and has continued to vote along party lines. Still, one of the better ones.
Also, no one should forget these disgraceful comments about him from the current White House :

Agreed. There is plenty he has done for this country that can stand by itself that we can all be thankful for and respect him (regardless of what the idiot at the white house has to say about POWs…as if he’s actually had to physically fight for anything other than the last drumstick in the KFC bucket – probably with his 9 year old son - in his life).
But there is also a lot that is sad to see someone with so
much apparent morality has gone along with for the sake of sticking with the
party.
Also horrifying seeing how useless the checks and balances of congress are right now – where unless you’re a democrat, the only people willing to speak out against the horrible acts of this administration are only doing so because they’re either dying or retiring. Apparently for the others keeping that (yes, I’ll say it, deplorable) voter base and donors happy is more important than any sense of duty or respect for what the presidency SHOULD represent.

On a somewhat similar note, I peed next to James L. Jones, former Commandant , once. I was left with a similar impression, and yes, there was a knife hand in his segment about national security at a public policy conferee .
