If I had to describe the paint on my 1980 Celica stock car, I would call it “diverse”. It seems to have been painted, then plastidipped, then painted over the dip. Basically, nobody was planning on it ever looking any way other than how it looks right now...which looks bad.
Initially I planned to just prime over the existing paint job and go from there, but as I pull vinyl off the car, I’m pulling lots of paint/dip off as well. So now I kinda want to just strip the thing...or at least the really big shit.
My number one idea is an angle grinder with a flap disc. It would eat the paint for lunch, but it only covers a small area at a time. It would make quick work of all the dip and vinyl, however, and thats appealing to me.
Anybody got a better idea than my dumb one?

Aircraft paint remover and a big cheap brush. That stuff will eat off paint and can be washed off with a hose/pressure washer.

Aircraft stripper. Basically made for this- but planes. Apply with a paint brush, wait 10 minutes, wipe off.
Don’t let it get on anything sensitive- like your skin.
I’ve done wheels this way- body panels would be nice and easy.

As other people mentioned something like this stuff and a cheap applicator that is getting trashed. Read and follow the hazmat warnings this stuff is awesome/scary in how effective it is. I learned about it

Double glove, respirator, open environment, check the label for disposal. If need be put a catcher around your drain to catch the fragments. That stuff is really bad for you, nerve damage was one of the side effects.
With all that said, it works a treat :)

Are you going to compete in a class of racing that the cars don’t look good from far and far from good?

Yep, I used it to get the clear coat off of my WS6 wheels. Works like a charm, but it’s definitely nasty stuff.

do what RACERS do, and just paint OVER the mess......
now i know that you want your pretty little racecar to look nice, but that just doesnt happen for too long when you are out with about a dozen other cars. just get a good bulk color, and give it a nice heavy coat. put some kind of easily repaired stripe or scallop, and call it a day. you will over work yourself if you try and keep a pretty car. so long as it looks good from 50 ft, you are golden......

It burns like hell when it splashes onto your forearm, so wear long sleeves too.
